The Dude agrees that big loud annoying boats should be banned from lake Martin. He also feels the same about loud annoying Harley -Davidson's on public roadways. Why do some people think that being loud somehow makes them cool?

I guess the same reason that some think they are cool when they open their big loud mouths!

Seems like we've had quite a lot of new folks showing up on the board lately to discuss the boating issue.

Check out this post from someone named "the dude". Not capitalized like our current "The Dude", so I'm not sure if it's the same person.

"Well not me......If everyone is that upset about noise and racket they need to move to a nursing home where they can waste away. I understand pointless doughnuts for constant hours in the same place, but if people complain about just a few PWC's here and there, get out."

You folks are funny. If you really believe this is due to big boats, shoreline erosion, noise, speed, etc, just wake up and smell what your shoveling. The big developers have sucked into the politicians and anyone else to get this deal done. They are useing the most popular complaints against us to all get a piece of the pie. The same thing was done in GA in 2003.

Explain... I think what you're saying is that developers want to cut down on noise pollution to maintain high property values. DUH!!!! Yes , us common folk benefit from that too.

Just my opinion.......I am grown. In case anyone hasn't read the Bham news, the below information clearly states that the big boats won't be leaving, or at least the ones that are sold at LM marinas. Appears the only thing leaving will most likely be the performance style boats. If this gets passed by the Senate, then we may lose about 2 dozen boats, maybe, that I know of. The cabin cruisers can still hang around and make their big waves..........FAIR......

Supporters, such as Laird and officials with Alabama Power Co., which owns property along Lake Harris, said the bill would improve safety and water quality by making boat crowding and illegal sewage dumping less likely.

"It's a clean-water and safety issue," Laird said.

Opponents said the bill was intended to help developers who want to build costly houses on east Alabama lakes for rich people from the Atlanta area.

"They want those Georgia millionaires buying those lots," said Rep. Mac Gipson, R-Prattville. "I assume the developers are trying to keep the lakes pristine so they can put in these high-dollar gated communities."

If the bill also passes the Senate and becomes law, on Weiss Lake, Lake Martin and Lake Harris it would:

Ban houseboats starting July 1, 2007. Exceptions would be made for houseboats licensed and in use on July 1, 2006, if they obtain a Department of Conservation annual permit, are inspected annually and meet standards for sewage disposal. The department could charge a permit fee.

Ban Cigarette boats or other recreational boats longer than 26 feet 11 inches that are rated for or capable of moving at more than 60 mph. The ban would start Oct. 1.

Ban boats longer than 30 feet 6 inches starting July 1, 2007. Exceptions would be made for boats that are in use or available for sale at a marina on one of the lakes on July 1, 2006. These boats also would have to obtain a state permit allowing their continued use on that lake only. The exception would not apply to Cigarette and similar boats.

Violations would be punishable by fine of $100 to $1,000, though a warning citation could be issued for a first offense.

The conservation department could issue permits to allow the temporary use of boats that otherwise would be excluded from the three lakes.

The bill would not affect boats used for law enforcement, public safety, scientific research or dam operation or maintenance.

Yeah, but big cabin cruisers are not annoying like your loud muscle boats.
