I rode to the " Boy Scout Camp " near the dam and no condos! The water temp is around 73*. I rode into " Long Branch " across from " The Rock " and saw " The Village " which had 12 units begining at ( please sit down ) $499,000.00 and off the water 8 units starting at $240,000.00. You really need to see this for yourself.

Ok Lamont and Fulltimer. I was at Murphys and filled up 4 6gal. cans and my truck tank for $269.9 a gallon after buying my groceries. Also I played 18 holes of " git-it-on-down " golf at Grand National for $16.20.

I like Jackie too and the way he treats people and occassionally he has some very good buys. I know they are good buys because I shop around for good bargains. Also I will pay the extra to get what I need rather than go to town. I am gratefull that he is there and provides the service he does. I traded with Mr. West for years before Jackie took over and will trade with him for many years to come I hope.

He is building an outstanding " baitshop " and I look forward to getting some of those good baits.

Oh another thing. Look to the right of " Marina South " at the townhouses going up.
Have a good lake day. I'm going to try some of that $1.00 beer one of these days.
Jackie's ladies make one heck of a " cheeseburger ". Peace.

Lakeman....I hope this message is for me....the thought of condos on my folks peninsula was making me sick.....I called my cousin, Amy Bowen...for any that remember her) and she said she thought there might be condos there now....I really want that property back....I'm old enough to afford it now, yet young enough to still enjoy it......and it sounds like you folks might enjoy fun there.................dollar beer???? steaks on a charcoal grill.....what else is there? Are the roads paved now...didn't use to be....

Don't forget about the great fishing. I caught and released ten illegal immigrants today. Man, they put up a good fight. The stocking of South Americans with work permitts will insure the continued pool.

ALL OF THE ABOVE WAS SAID IN JEST.

Good luck on obtaining a Lake place that guarantees a better quality of life. Even if not the old family place, you will always be able to ride over on the same Lake and refresh the great past memories.

Yes...the fishing.......my grandfather ,Pete Land, taught me how to fish and ski on Lake Martin. My grandmother taught me how to bathe in the lake. We'd get up about 6:00 in the morning....grab our towels and ivory soap and make a mad dash to the lake in our underwear........bet it's too crowded now. on Sundays, we'd take the boat over to a place called Church in the pines..........is it still there?.. Now, I'm talking about around 1965.........bet there's a shiny new condo there now......Does Alabama Power still own a bunch of the land on the lake? Or have big developers come in and taken the land like they did here on Lake Nickajack in Tennessee....Oh well, I will keep my fingers crossed that the cabin is still sitting there.....if someone will please give me an address...street name....cove name...to give to my agent.....once again....there were 3 graveled roads...the one on the left led to the boy scout camp....the one on the right led to the "Plants" cabin... and the one in the middle led to our family's lake house.....a fairly long road (at least to a 7 year old).... to a peninsula with a concrete block cabin and we had a boat house on the right....sound familiar to anyone?????Thanks....

Church in the Pines is still there. Not all of the lake has changed all that much--just the Blue Creek area and the Chimney Rock area. APCo hasn't done much developing and they own 400 miles of shoreline. Russell Lands is slowly developing high end subdivisions around the Rock. The old Kowaliga Restaurant burned years ago, there's a new bridge at Kowaliga, Bama Park is now a trailer condo park. There's a new dam and lake up stream of Martin that makes our water even more clear.

We owned a place here back in the 70's, sold it when we moved further away and recently built and moved back full time. It's still wonderful. If you like crowds, heavy boat traffic, etc.--go to Blue Creek/Chimney Rock-- if you like memories of the way it was, go anywhere else.

This is the little peninsula just past Goat Island going toward the dam. There are signs up and open shelters. The outdoor church is still there. I went to " Sunrise Service " there on Easter.
