Like when we had practice drills leaving school to walk home (if you lived in town) during the Cuban Missile Crisis.

We had our own bomb shelter in our basement. My mother had stocked it with food and water.

It had a window, though. I don't know what they were going to do about that window. But the walls were very thick.

1. I had just finished working in the chow hall of Mag Dorm for Friday lunch (Auburn U.) when news spread like wildfire that JFK was shot in Dallas.

2. I was in a hospital room in Ft. Walton FL and watched man first
set foot on the moon.

Spending 6 months in Guam in 1967 while serving in the USAF.

Meeting and shaking hands with the president of the USA in 1968 while
stationed in Puerto Rico . Maybe not the most popular president but he was the head man then.
