Noticed that the newly rebuilt Texaco at the intersection of 49/34 outside of Dadeville is open for business. Apparently in some stroke of genius they have named it "Store 19" based on the sign on the front.

I just can't figure that one out. First time I drove by thought I just misread it and it must be Store 49, but it is definitely 19. I can usually figure stuff like this out, but am completely stumped on this one. Maybe the sign was made incorrectly. At the very least it's a weak attempt at mimicking their competition across the road with two obvious exceptions; Store 34 actually has some relevance to its location, and actually has a "neat" sound to it.

Store 19? Don't get it. Anyone know these folks or have any ideas? BTW - is this the same family that owned the store when it burned down?

I don't know why the name is store 19 but the new owner (understand he bought the old Texaco) was originally one of the owners in store 34.
Owner of store 34 was originally from Dadeville and lives in Suzannah Crossings Subdivision.

At least go with Store 68 and claim to be twice as good!

Maybe he/she is 87 years old......

The company that owns this store also owns several others (18 to be exact). Their first store was called Store 1. They just increase the number each time they open a new store. Hence this is the 19th store in their chain.

I must admit though . . . it was a little confusing with Store 34 right across the street.

"Maybe he/she is 87 years old......"

... by 87 I really mean 72. As in born in 1934. or could be 1919....

Thanks Pike - figured there had to be some reason and sorta expected it to be something like that. IMHO, one of the dumbest naming conventions I've ever heard of, but I'm sure they think it's witty.

Tom Halley of Auburn owns the store and he does own a bunch of gas stations. Couldn't be a bigger @ss on this planet.
Earney Barns owns Store 34 and will treat you right ,very good guy.

Thanks for the heads up Scarab. I've always tried to balance my time between the two stores just to keep them both in business. That can change. It would be easier to stomach if Store 34 would simply fix their pumps so you could use a credit card on all of them. I typically refuse to buy gas anywhere you can't. Oh, and apparently actually putting receipt tape in their one bank of pumps that does take cards would cut into their profits.....

As a funny aside, I actually am across the slough from the original owner of the store where the Texaco is. Bill Walding. Used to borrow his canoe when I was a kid (like 36 years ago or so). I bet he's gotten a kick out of the changes there over the years.....

The pumps are in need of a little repair, never seen the diesal pumps work off a credit card ever.I just would rather spend my money with a family store and everyone is nice at Store 34.
I haven't seen Bill in forever,as long as he made his dollar on Halleys place im sure he's happy.

I kinda like having to go in to pay for my gas in a family owned store. Keeps me up with the neighborhood goings-on.
