Last year my family and I spent our first vacation at Lake Martin in late July. After 1 week of boating, swimming, fishing and just enjoying your paradise, we decided to return this year. We are booked for mid July on Blue Creek, in a house on Windflower. After reading about the concern of many residents of Lake Martin about the water level, I am debating whether we should bring our boat. We have an 18ft, outboard, runabout will the water level be too low to safely operate our boat for watersporting activities? We are looking forward to spending our vacation at Lake Martin, hopefully there will be enough water to do so.

The rumor on the street is that by the time you come - the lake will be at or below to winter levels (480). Which is 10-feet below full-pool. All that to say - the lake has not dried up and gone away - it is just a little bit of a pain in the rear for those of whose house is in shallow water areas. I would bring the boad - if nothing else, you can get a couple of heavy anchors and anchor it off the bank. I hope you and your family enjoy your vacation.

IF you can find a place to launch your boat (there are a couple of deep water ramps) you will need to be cautious about shallow water in the sloughs or near the shoreline. Stay in the big water and you should be ok.

Enjoy the lake but be safe.

Bring your boat. The only concern is finding a place to launch in your area of the lake. Call ahead to find one. The lake will be at or near winter level. The lake is used heavily by fishermen in the winter. I used to have a 23' center console and used it in the winter with no problems launching at certain ramps. A positve about the low water in the summer is that there alot more beach to enjoy around the lake.

Youa can launch at wind creek state park. I RV and launch there every weekend, and the ramps are fine...

I would second the advice about staying in the big water. A good contour map will help you with most of the hazards, too. Don't hug the shoreline, either, since even the best maps don't show every long point and rock pile out there. The main thing is to have a good time, just be a little more careful.

Thanks for all the replies. Where would I find a good contour map? Does anyone know of any boatlaunch facilities near Blue Creek that will be ok at winter water levels? How about a safe place to water ski at these water levels? Last year we skied for hours in Madwind Creek.

Sorry for the boatlaunch question, just got my answer in another thread. Looks like APCO Union on Blue Creek would be my best bet. Thanks again.

John
