Anyone else heard of this stuff? Sounds almost like a water version of Kudzu.

Anyway, I saw it on the news last night. It is completedly covered Caddo Lake in Texas (LA border).

Here is a link;

I saw the same news report. Very, very scary.

I had not heard of it until the news report last night. It sounds like the "plant from hell". Nasty, I hope we never see it in Alabama lakes.

I haven't heard of this but in the west we had a weed called Milfoil - very nasty, took over entire lakes and traveled by trailers and props moved from lake to lake. Once in, it zapped the oxygen levels and threatened the health of large lakes. We should be careful -

Isn't milfoil what has been a chronic problem on Lake Guntersville, especially since they stopped the federal eradication programs about 10-15 years ago?

They showed a map on the news showing where the Salvinia has spread--there were two places in Alabama shown.
Also interesting to me (and scary) -- a man held a fistful of the stuff and said that amount could spread to 40 acres within a month. They also said the prime way of spreading the stuff was the Salvinia getting caught on boat trailers when launching/trailering and then being transported from place to place.
