I have a house I'm looking to sell/move off my property on Lake Martin. I'm going to build a new house and hate to burn it down for the tax write off. It's in great condition but in the way. It's about 1000 sq ft. I'm looking to see if I could find someone looking for a house to put on a lot at the lake. The move could cost 15k so I'm not sure what someone would be willing to pay for this house. If someone knows of anybody that might be interested let me know.

Might try calling Strickland Brothers House Movers in Wetumpka (567-2929). I have no connection with them, but I've seen them park several houses on an empty lot in Wetumpka over the years. Maybe they know the best way to find a buyer for a house once it is made portable.

The problem is that 'making it portable' is the major expense. One of my sisters looked into buying a house that was displaced by road construction in Fayette County, GA. There were several of them being auctioned and one that she interested in moving to her lot in Blue Creek. This was several years ago but the estimates that she got was around 5k, about the same as moving a double wide trailer. It was cheap because the houses were already 'portable'. Of course special permitting could become an issue for a larger 2 story house. The prices she got as for simple ranch style. Two story houses usually require the removal and replacing of utility lines at some point(s) which would drive the price up.

Bottom line, the actual hauling is relatively cheap. It is the getting it ready that can cost an arm and a leg.

Where is the house and do you have any pics?

Some of the house moving companies will simply come and get them if you give them the house. Saves you about $15k - $20k. We are seeing a lot of this around the Vestavia area where older homes are being replaced.
