Maybe it was just a dream, but I could swear that last night I read a thread about Highway 63 being moved and straightened. But I can't find any mention of that today. If posts are being deleted, is it because someone at Russell doesn't want the information made public, or just because they don't want the bad PR. Either way, it reminds me of some of the stuff we fought against in WWII, Korea, Vietnam, and even today. Very disappointing.

Was just reading about Russell Crossroads, Russell Cooperative District and Russell Crossroads Improvement District no less than 20 minutes ago. These posts were deleted within the past 10 minutes (12:45 EST). For what reason? Inaccurate info? Would like to know but doubt we were supposed to be privy to that information.

Why wouldn't we be privy to that information? It involves a public highway, and we're the public!

The posts were probably 2 days old, so the information was out there. As I recall, it stated that HWY 63 would be re-routed to be closer to the Russell X-Roads development from MM18 to the Kowaliga Bridge. The new route would result in a "dangerous" curve, so they took the curve out by straightening a section of the hwy (?).

Russell Crossroads is not currently directly on Highway 63. That will change, and not because they have decided to build the development closer to the road. Instead they will move the road to be closer to the development. moving it just in that area would create a dangerous curve, so the road will be straigtened from that area all the way to the bridge. Draw a line on a map and you'll see that cabins on roads like Governor's Island Road and Creek Trail Road are not going to be as far from the highway as they used to be. I think they've managed things enough so that no cabins will be displaced, but I can't swear to that.

I also can't say for sure whose palms got greased so that something like this could be done with no public input or awareness, but I'm sure that several people in state and local govt. not to mention the Highway Dept. will soon have nice new homes on the lake.

A resolution for the formation of Russell Crossroads Improvement District and the formation of Russell Crossroads Cooperative District was passed unanimously at the January 14th Tallapoosa County Commission meeting.

Tunnels, bridges, new "limited access" on existing roads.....

All of these things are in our very near future.

Kiss Liberty Church goodbye, just like the cemetaries on Wicker Point, it will be "an accident."

The Boat Ban Issue. Several said, Russell backed it. Along with APCO. And, they still have "Big Boats" for sale.

Folks I'm trying to restore the development info but it was all in one thread so it's messy. The situational information about an individual was not appropriate... Please respect the privacy of folks in difficult times.

I have my own thoughts about privacy:
Last year (2007) the company I work for layed off half the IT department. That affected over 500 people. That is the area I work in. As the employees left, Indians came in to pick up the work. The employees left behind (like me) had to deal with inferior work at our own expense of extra time in working with them. That was all done in the name of saving money. That is the problem with public companies in this environment of a bad economy and a federal government that hands out H1-B visas to anyone that says they perform technology work. I ended up developing a severe hatred for the company I work for and much respect for the people that where laid off. After we were all individually told if we had a job in the future we did not know the status of anyone else. Then people started disappearing over the next 12 months. That is the sort of privacy we had and this was all internal to the company and people we knew.

I guess I vented a little too much.

I understand about personal privacy...but what about our rights to free speech? If the person who changed their alias felt that strongly about what he / she said and wanted to share it with others who care about what is going on around the lake then who has the right to delete it?

I for one think the webmaster does a great job on determining what he needs to delete and what can stay. And I think he should be commended for the job he does in monitoring the posts and having to take the time out of his busy schedule to delete posts when folks complain, etc. As this website is not his real job, but one he does it out of his passion for the lake.

So with that said I have to take up for the Webmaster on this one as while what was posted about Mr. Bain may or may not have been true who knows. But one thing is true -- most posts in the past which have discussed a sensitive matter and the person has been named outright have been deleted.

As the webmaster and Forum Manager he has the right to delete any posts which he may feel are inappropriate. Actually by posting on this public forum we have all agreed abide by the Forum Charter as follows:

SO TO BRUCE I SAY GREAT JOB !!!!

No Profanity - No Advertising - No Defamation

The Lake Martin Forums are unmoderated public forums. Inappropriate postings will be deleted. The decision to delete posts is at the sole discretion of the Forum Manager based on requests from forum readership. No explanation will be provided as to why a particular post or thread was been deleted. It is advisable to not post your real name on a public forum. You never know how someone may reply to your post or take something you said out of context. You can post under an anonymous alias to hide your true identity. You can reserve an alias exclusively for your use, if you become a member.

I too realized this morning that a whole bunch of posts were missing that I had read at 6 p.m. I agree with Mav... Bruce is just doing his job. Free speech is our right, and we all know what RL's goals are. I'd hate to have Bruce's job some days!
