Skied Saturday and Sunday. The water is breathtakingly cold. Wouldn't have been SO bad if the air temp had been warmer. But, I had the boat at the house and I hate to waste an opportunity. It took 20 minutes in a hot shower for me to be able to feel my feet.

On another note - don't know if y'all have problems with birds on your boats - for some reason they thought my boat would be a great place to roost overnight. I'm not talking small birds either. I'm talking great big piles of big bird guano. And it sticks like glue. Ick Ick Ick.

How are you keeping your inboard from freezing up? I know it's warm enough this week to leave it out without any issues, but the other day you mentioned skiing and it had been super cold.

I've thought about going ahead and getting mine to the shop for a new carb and transmission rebuild, but don't want to do it too soon to only have to winterize it again in March.

Just wondering.

Most of the time a light bulb under the engine cover is sufficient. The few nights it goes below 20, drain the water out plus leave the light on. That's happened twice this winter.

I used to winterize at the first threat of a real hard freeze. Usually in December. Get it out again in March. But there are a lot of good days to ski in between. I was talking to Mr Devine (mechanic-I love that man!) about it and asked what I could do if I didn't want to winterize. Cheap fix of course. He suggested the light bulb.

In three years this is the first year the water needed to be drained. The two years prior to this the light bulb was enough.

I use the lightbulbs also, although its not much it can add 10 degrees or more to the area, I put one near the engine and also under the boat by the prop.........

I hope we are thru with 20degree weather, I am ready for Spring.

I see you know Ernest Divine... I forgot you use River's Edge Marina too. He's a great boat mechanic & was working on boats when most of us weren't even born. He's got to be pushing 80, but gets around as well as anybody I know. He "retired" but hangs around the marina just the same. Ask him about the boat he built, but make sure you have plenty of time! I'll see all of you soon.

He blew past 80 a long time ago. The last time the topic came up he was 87 and that was maybe year before last. I bet he could tell you exactly when it was - his memory is better than mine. I saw him on Sunday when I was returning my boat to the marina.

It doesn't surprise me about his age. He has a "lady friend" near his age that has a trailor at the marina - she gets around as good as he does. It's kinda nice to see them sitting on the deck in the afternoons drinking tea together.

I have known Mr. Devine (Slim) for a long time. He was my fathers supervisor at Stockam Valves 20 years ago.He says any time you have a problem with youre boat just gvie him a call.I seen him change a motor out in a house boat in just a weekend when he was 84 maybe. He has been around what was then Rabbit Branch nearly as long as they have been their.
