That is a good book and abailable at the Dadeville Library, but the best book I have read on the lake and the early days of Alabama Power is still "Putting Loafing Streams to Work" by Harvey Jackson. I couldn't find an interactive link for it online, but I did find it for sale for as little as $3.32 for a used paperback version. The hardcover is $34.00 but worth every penny. It is a coffee table size book with loads of pics and covers the building of Lay, Mitchell, Martin, and Jordan dams. It is suprising how inovative Mr. Martin was in bringing his dream to fruition. To learn more on Mr. Martin I recomend "Thomas Martin, Alabama Dynamo", sorry I forget the author right now. Mr. Martin was very small in stature but very large in his vision for bringing affordable electricity to Alabama. His legacy lives on in the form of our favorite playground. There is a bronze plaque at the dam in his honor and a photo of it is availble in the dam section on the photo page.
