Does anyone know of a State or Fed agency which periodically tests our water at LM for pollutants/contamination, and publishes the results? Tracks changes?
Maybe a web site reference??

Thanks Feb. Good resource.
But, LM Watch is associated with HOBOS, which is associated with whomever, which is ultimately,,, political. Do not want to go there for data.
What I am looking for is hard data from a non-political source (is that possible?) which publishes for all to see the facts from testing the water!!
What was the "XYZ Ugly" content in 2005? What is it Today??
Are we doing good,,, or Bad?? Why??

the driving force behind Lake Watch is as nonpolitical as it gets. The sources of information you seek would probably defer to Lake Watch as the definitive authority for water quality on LM. Go to their page and learn more (if you don't already know about it). The association w/ HOBOS was to advance the great work Lake Watch has been doing for years, nothing more.

Plus Mack Lake Watch is trying to get Lake Martin certified by the state for Outstanding Water Quality Certification.

See the benefits on such are based on a presentation of Lake Watch's from 2007.

Please show us an affiliation of HOBOs or Lake Watch with any political arena.

I beg you.

I do thank you for the post since it reminded me to join Lake Watch. I made out the check this evening.

Lake Watch was around long before HOBOs.

I am sure you are aware of all of the above. Please email me at lamarw@charter.net if you know of any political aliance.

I personal do not know of any two less political associations, and I will not hide my close association with HOBOs. Just check out their contact list on the HOBO web page.

OK, OK. Consider me sufficiently slapped down. I surrender.
Anyway, thanks for the link to LW. Found the exact data I was looking for.
Also found a direct link to HOBO,s on the LW Homepage, as well as many references to ADEM, Justice Departments, AC/Dadeville City Governments, etc. I guess that confused me.
Think I'll join too.

Mack, although I'm a frequent reader of the Forum, I normally don't respond to comments about Lake Watch. And it sounds like you've found the answers you needed about water quality in the lake anyway.

But in case you want more information, there is plenty about the health of many lakes including Martin on the Alabama Water Watch website at www.alabamawaterwatch.org and even more high-tech stuff from the Tallapoosa Watershed Project (see www.twp.auburn.edu). During the latter study, Lake Watch volunteers worked with scientists from Auburn University, the University of Alabama, and ADEM in this 4-year federally funded study of the impact of nutrients on local waters, particularly Lake Martin. It's worth a read if you have the time.

The bottom line is that we are privileged to enjoy the cleanest lake in the state...and likely one of the cleanest in the southeast. If you need more information, email me at dbronson@charter.net.

Thanks for the added references. I was interested in how the rapid development all over LM was impacting water quality today as opposed to 10 or 15 years ago. From LakeWatch's Newsletters and Annual Reports, it seems that, with a couple of exceptions, LM is doing really well in the face of the increasing pressure.
My thanks to all those who work to keep it clean.
