I know I'm a simple thinker but rain all day should equal either water rising or at least holding, not dropping. Is APCO expecting so much rain that it's sucking it out ahead of time? With so much rain below us and potential flooding further south, why would they be sending water down stream?
I'm sure there is some formula to this, so I must be thinking to logically. After a whole day Saturday of rain I had to let some slack into my lines because the 'toon dropped yesterday.

Then I guess I'm also thinking with too much logic. Weiss, Neely, and Logan Martin are all down by 1.5 feet or more. The lakes below us are within .5 feet of full pool. The majority of south central, and south Alabama has gotten several inches of rain, so they definately do not need releases from the northernmost reservoirs. What explanation is there that rationalizes APCO's decision to release water into areas that are most likely to have flooding issues?
I guess you'd have to be a hydrologist employed by APCO to understand.

With all of the rain in South AL it seems that they would be slowing the downstream flow unless we are near a flood stage ourselves. But I am not a cartoon character so who am i to make a suggestion.

Because LM is a reservoir and Lay is not, it's run of the river. While unfortunate, it's what Logan Martin and Lake Martin were designed for. We pay less for property (as compared to Mitchell and parts of Lay) because of it and while it's certainly frustrating, this is what Logan Martin is designed for.

What does a comment I made about a previous question comparing LM to Lay have to do with my question now?
I answered someone's question about comparisons of lakes, I asked this time as to why as the rain is continually coming down is the river dropping.

Here on Lay our water is yo-yo'ing every 12 hours. They pulled atleast a foot and a half from us from 12 to 4 today. This is the 3 rd time in a week. I myself am asking why are we floating all this water to the Alabama? I would think we need to preserve some of it in case we go on a dry spell again but I'm not Elmer Fudd either. I just hope it's back at full pool for this weekend, I'm sure it will be..

The RESERVOIR isnt dropping. What with ground absorbtion and the time required for runoff to take place the lake is on the rise now.
your previous answer to the question should and would apply here also if it wasnt.
Having watched the fluctuations in Logan Martin for 18 years it still befuddles me as to why APCO does the things it does.
I still contend that if Logan Martin can be held and any level below full pool for a period of time,it could just as handily be held at full pool for that same time.

You're probably right on that. I think their data tables with which they apply these formulas for regulating might need to be updated.
