My daughter goes to Auburn and she was telling me that she was going to vote for Obama. I asked her why. She told me that she felt that people that make more money should be taxed higher so they can give the money to the less fortunate. I asked her if she thought our family should pay more in taxes and she said yes. So I said, let me understand this, I worked very hard for what we have and to get to where I am in life. I already pay a much higher percentage of my earning that the average person and the top 5% wage earners of the country pay 98% of all the taxes already. She said, I know dad but other people need it.

So I said how are your grades at Auburn, she said you know I am a straight A student. Then I said how is your friend Tish doing this semester. She said not good, she is really struggling and she will be lucky if she can maintain a C average, I just hope she does not flunk out.

I then said, that would be terrible if she did not make it at Auburn, i know you guys are great friends. So I told her .... here is an idea, why not go to the dean at Auburn and tell him that you want to reduce your grades to a B and see if he will raise Tish's grades to a B too. I told her that a B is still a good grade and she would be helping Tish.

My daughter said no way dad, I work really hard for my grades while Tish skips class and stays out late partying. That would not be fair to me. I earned my A grades through my hard work, if Tish and I both have B's then there is no reason I should work so hard to maintain my A grades.

I then said ... sweetheart, welcome to the republican party.

It's funny you should have the same conversation with your college age child while I'm having the same conversation with my high schooler. I will let him make his own decisions politically. I know that it is common for them to go a little liberal during their college years due mostly to influence. My son came home stating that his Spanish teacher is teaching politics. The teacher said wouldn't it be better for 20 people to have the same amount of money and live better than it would for 10 to have money and the other 10 to not? The teacher lost that debate is class. The strange thing is this teacher said she would continue to talk politics in Spanish as long as no student told their parents! She's really teaching them! Teaching them to deceive and not communicate with their parents. I would have her head if it was up to me, but I honor my sons wishes not to stir trouble for him.

I have my children in a private Catholic school that prohibits the kind of indoctrination that goes on in government schools.

There is no place for politics in our schools. That should be a condition of employeement.

I also sent my child to a private school to avoid the government education. Fortunately I could afford it. I am for school vouchers so anyone can make that choice.

I find it interesting that Obama is against school vouchers, yet he sends his two children to "private" schools. Funny how that works. The "government" schools are not good enough for his children, yet he will fight against others being able to have that same choice through vouchers.

Also, home schooling is increasing every year. That has to say something about what people think of our school systems.

This fable has made the rounds on the internet the past few years. Change the names and personalize it and it appears to be true. I served on a school board for 3 years where you are not paid to serve. We sold the school buses to a private company to save money among other changes. What have you done to make a difference other than complain??

This may be a good story, but it has been around since Kerry ran for office.

take this literally? Its just a story that you can personalize if you want to make a point. It's like Dick Gephardt's imaginary friends or the dead person that Edwards channeled with in a trial. You realize that this is a made up story intended to make a broader point.

Yes, yes ... it is a story to make a point. The point is valid. What part don't you agree?

We are a capitalist society. That is what made us great. Equal opportunity for greatness. I came from a blue collar family and was the first to go to college. I made my success and don't want it taken from me for any reason. I donate heavily to charities and do volunteer work. I do not need the government taking more from me to redistribute wealth.

The point of the story if you read it ... is how far do you take the Obama liberal thoughts? What he is preaching is socialism and everyone should be dead set against that.

Socialism takes away the competitive nature that made this country great. What incentive if there to do better and be successful if a larger share is taken away to be redistributed to those that did not work as hard or take risks?

What I hear people like you and other liberals saying is they do not like the idea that society is like a Pyramid, the higher up things get squeezed. But everyone has that shot, but not everyone will make it. I am sorry that is the way it works.

I would like to have been higher up too and I am sure my dad would have, but you take what you have and do not desire to take something away from those that were more successful.

You just don't get it.

Why is it a fable? Is it not the truth? Old or not, the message is TRUE!
