Listed below is an editorial from The Decatur Daily about APC's plans for wood as a fuel rather than other energy sources.
Wood may prove cheaper, better fuel
Many people will be interested in a study Alabama Power Co. plans to undertake during the second half of 2009.
The study is to determine if the power company will begin using the state’s largest renewable resource, wood, to make electricity.
The company cited higher costs for coal and other fuels that make wood a candidate.
If the switch comes, Alabama Power will be centrally located to the wood market. Alabama has 22.5 million acres of timberland. Only Georgia and Oregon have more land in timber in the contiguous states.
Almost 80 percent of the state’s timberland is in private, non-industrial hands.
In addition to its cost, coal leaves a mountain of environmental problems, including coal ash that is becoming more of a liability.
The Tennessee Valley Authority’s recent problems with coal ash have to be a potential concern to Alabama Power. A TVA holding pond broke Dec. 21 and sent 1.1 billion gallons of ash and sludge into a small town near Knoxville.
A subsequent spill occurred at Widows Creek steam plant at Stevenson, near Scottsboro.
Wood may be a good alternative for another reason, if it doesn’t pose greater environmental concerns. Coal takes centuries to form but a stand of trees can develop in a matter of decades.

This is very informal information. I beleive that wood would be a much better alternative, and plus the trees can be replanted multiple times. Therfore it is also helping the environment much more than hurting it! Its about time APC discorvered this type of awesome alternative.
Yet, I do have a question from this also:
Does this mean Gorgas' production will be reduced?
