Does anyone on south end of the lake receive over-the-air digital signals for TV? I will shortly be installing a digital to analog converter box on the boat. Just curious to know if it's worth the time or effort? If there are no replies, within a week or two I will have my answer anyway and report back.

The only thing is that some broadcasting corps. will not be initiating their digital signals until after the crossover date...

I am receiving digital WSFA, WAKA, WNCF, PBS at my cabin in Little Kowaliga. You need a long distance antenna in my area because of the terrain. Maybe it would be easier where you are. All of the stations in our area are already broadcasting DTV. Some at reduced power. WCOV will be difficult to get because their coverage area is smaller.

I just set one up at my shop in Alex City and I can pick up 12.1 12.2 12.3 retro channel along with some B,ham channels. You do need a good antenna along with an amplifier. The stations should boost their signal when they change over completely.

I'm on the north side, Parker Creek area, and all I get with digital is 12 and 26. With analog I was getting 3 & 9 from Columbus, 6 & 13 from Birmingham, 8, 20, & 32 from Montgomery, and also 2, 7 and 67. Sometimes I got a few more UHF stations from those three cities, and on rare occasion I could get Atlanta when the weather was right. So I was getting at least a dozen not quite clear channels, and now I get two perfectly clear channels.

You may need a larger antenna. But also, it may get better. Most stations are broadcasting at reduced power. Also WSFA and WAKA will be moving to VHF frequencies which will help. It may be June before it all works out.

The antenna is plenty large, almost the biggest one I could order two years ago. From what I've read, some of the stations are already at full power, particularly WAKA 8 which dropped analog back in Dec.

True but WSFA will move it's frequency to 12 and WAKA will move to 8 in the VHF band. This will help.
You should eventually be able to get Columbus and B'ham stations possibly.

I found a website, www.rabbitears.info, with lots of geeky details on TV stations and their current and planned geographical footprints. I'll eventually get a couple of the Montgomery stations again, but I can pretty much forget Columbus and Birmingham. Those on the east side of the lake will be be to get a couple of the Columbus stations, but the rest of us can forget it. Most of the VHF stations are going to a UHF channel with a 50-60ish mile range, leaving a TV black hole that will sell a lot of satellite dishes from south of Sylacauga to north of Auburn.

Channel 12 WSFA will move back to VHF Channel 12 after February 17th and Channel 8 will move to Channel 8.
They are already running periodic tests on these frequencies.
