For those of you that have a lot here you should contact the marina office ASAP. As of 1 Apr 09 there will be a rather large increase of your lot rent. They are not doing a very good job of informing people of this increase and there are options that will save you a great deal of money.

Thanks,

LL

What are the Options?

If you pay the rent (prior to 1 Apr) for the entire year you get the old rate.

I thought the AF stopped the homesteading at Max Gunter Rec area? As a retired military member I have always been against the practice of letting people live at a rec camp. My experience with rec camps across the country is that you could not homestead and in fact, they were set up for all military to use on a temporary basis. I do know there was an effort a couple of years back to remedy this problem. I wonder how many folks would like to use the sites but can't get in due to folks homesteading the area. If you want to live at the lake buy a place like the rest of us have and open the area to the troops that would like to have a few days of availabilty to use the facility.

There are plenty of RV sites, tent sites, Trailer rentals, etc... to support any military member that would like to use them. If it were not for the 'homesteaders' as you call them their would be no income for the rec area over the winter months.

Shirt - as you look down from that lofty perch at the "problem" of "homesteaders" at Max/Gun, be aware that it is the "homesteaders" that do the building of the docks, the improvements to the lots and the maintaining of the lots at the "homesteaders" expense.

No lofty perch here. That brings up another point docks and decks. Where else on any installation or rec area are you able to do that? You do know that the park is leased? When the area was cleared out and the new park models were installed they removed some of the slum that had developed over the years. It was a dump. There were trailers that had been there for years and the condition was terrible. My whole point is that people have taken advantage of the area with complete disregard for anyone currently at the numerous installations that may want to use the site as a campground. What would you estimate the numbers of RV sites available of the 60 that are there? Maybe 5 to 10! That isn't many based on the numbers that could be sharing in the experience of the campground. I read the brochure today and it says there is a 9 day limit per stay. I live about a mile from the campground and will check out the availability this weekend. Do they allow year round stays at Wind Creek?

I know the park is leased, that is why there is no guarantee of a spot. Do you suppose there would still be a park (especially during the drought) if it were not for the fulltimers?

Bottom line it is not, nor was the intent to be a permanent residence. You could always do what I did and actually buy a lot and not depend on the gov't to provide you with a cheap place to live. Sorry I don't feel the way you do but I just don't think what is going on there is right. Sounds like FWA to me. (Fraud waste and abuse)

Every time I stay there I walk between the beach and camp ground. EVERY time I get yelled at "Get off my yard", etc. I understand the need for full-timers, but the full-timers have no respect for the week-enders. I do not see a problem with someone walking along the shoreline through a campground. Keep in mind that the users are all associated with the military. As far as I am concerned when you approach me about walking through "your grass" I will have no problem telling you where you can transplant said grass...
