For all you striper fisherman check out the website blacksalty.com. You can order live bait online. The website states that you can get them from Mike's in Alex city but I don't know if that is true or not.

We had a good test on Tuesday at Smith lake between using shad and black salty's. We purchased a dozen of each to see which worked better. We saw no real difference between the amount of hits between the black salty's and the shad. Granted we were in schools of striper that were agressively feeding.

I think the black salty is a very good bait and it lasts forever. They can take a couple of hits and still live. If a striper even looks at a shad it's dead.

Wes,

Where do you get your black salty's

I order salties directly from Anderson's Fish Farm in AR (blacksalty.com - there is a link on my web page). They are $90 for 150 large (3-4") or 75 X-large (5-6"). In the winter they ship once per week with an overnight delivery on Friday morning. Sometime in the spring they start shipping two days/week - delivery is Tuesday or Friday. I keep them in a cage on the dock, and have had no problems. No pumps, no chemicals, no tanks, no fuss. I feed a cage full a couple of cups of catfish or hog finisher feed (put in a mesh bag) per day in summer or once every other day in winter. Black salties are the toughest bait fish I've seen - many times we've caught two or three fish on the same salty. One hit by a striper and a shad is dead, and stripers don't like dead bait.

I forgot to mention that Anderson Farms takes orders over the telephone as well - that's how I do it. Their number is (501) 676-2716.

Mikes is now Fishtales Bait and tackle. And yes, they do have Black Salties. Checked with them last month and they had plenty in stock.

Also, they are looking into carrying Gizzard Shad as well.
