There is no doubt that Obama's overall approval numbers remain high but there is one significant chink in his approval armor. Rasmussen compares the gap between the Strongly Approve versus Strongly Disapprove numbers that they call the Presidential Approval Index (PAI). Bush always had a negative PAI because he had both liberals and conservatives disapprove of his performance.

Obama's PAI has dropped to -8. What that means is that the percentage of likely voters that Strongly Disapprove of his performance exceeds those that Strongly Approve by 8%. As little as two months ago the PAI was +5 so this is a 13% change to the bad.

Before Lady and all the Messiah sycophants send me other poll numbers I will stipulate that his numbers are still good and positive. My point here is that at least with regard to those that feel strongly one way or the other about Obama, they are heading in the wrong direction from his perspective.

Lady, please let me know if you need me to point you to the poll. I am always glad to help.

You crack me up. I truly enjoy reading your posts.

There will always be the people like lady, Archie and GF that will pull the lever for Obama in the next election no matter what happens. And there will be people like me that disagrees strongly with his views on america and his policy decisions and could not ever see myself voting for him.

What seems to be happening is the middle of the road people that said lets give him a shot, are waking up and realizing what a disaster it is to have a one party system that does not generate a healthy debate. Their "agenda" gets put in place and it leads us down a path far to the left.

America is still a center right country. Sometimes people are baffled with a good speach that says nothing and they see what they get and correct it the next go around.

We lived through Jimmy Carter (barely) and hopefully we will survive Obama before he does too much damage.

Now, if only we had a center right party we would be in business in 2012!!

that is the point of having congress and the white house split. Keeps the checks and balance in place and in the best interest of the american people.

I would argue that the republican party on a whole is much more center with a leaning to the right, while the democrats are much more heavily left. Not sure why they moved so far left ... must be their financial backers, because it was not that way 20-30 years ago.

I think that it's normal to see Obama's numbers go down and if the economy doesn't pick up, you'll see them go a lot further down. There is always a honeymoon period for any President, then reality sets in.

I think you are right about the Democrats in general. I do think they have moved to the left. But, I also think the GOP has moved further to the right. And I'm one of those who would like to see them move a little closer to the center.
I think both parties have been unduly influenced by their financial supporters. It costs so much to run a campaign that the parties are left embraces the principles of the big money contributors. And I don't think that is a good thing.

The story of political polarization isn’t a matter of both parties moving to the extreme. It’s hard to make a case that Democrats have moved significantly to the left. On economic issues from welfare to taxes, Bill Clinton governed not just to the right of Carter, but to the right of Nixon. It’s obvious the Reps have moved to the right. Compare GW Bush to Gerald Ford. Nixon governed on domestic issues as a moderate, perhaps even a liberal by raising taxes, expanding environmental regulation, even seeking to introduce national health insurance. “Comprehensive health insurance is an idea whose time has come to America. Let us act now to assure all Americans financial access to high quality medical care.(Nixon - 1974)” This plan broadly resembled John Edward’s plan. Nixon pushed for guaranteed minimum income. He pushed through a tax increase, including the alternative minimum tax which was intended to crack down on the wealthy who managed to use tax shelters to avoid taxes. He passed the Clean Air Act. In foreign affairs, he opened a dialogue with Communist China. The modern Rep party has been taken over by radicals. There hasn’t been any corresponding radicalization of the Dems, so the right-wing takeover of the GOP is the underlying cause of today’s bitter partisanship.

Are we living in the same country?

You don't consider what Obama is doing as radicalization of the Dems?

I think maybe I need some of whatever it is you are taking.
