I probably won't get much response since this isn't about goats, geese, campers or bumpers, but I need some advice. Several of the "snaps" on my pontoon cover have either become detatched and stuck onto the boat or those on the boat are bent and useless (due to learning how to dock a pontoon). I saw in the Overby's catalogue a snap repair kit and wondered if anyone has had experience in repairing the snap either on the cover or on the boat using one of these kits. Or, is there a better method? Thanks in advance.

I use the snap repair kit often despite my pleas for the children to not "rip" the canvas cover off. Pretty easyt and straightforward, works well unless the cover has been ripped where the snap inserts. Make sure the replacement kit snaps are the same size as the ones you are replacing.

Have never had to replace the snap on the boat however. Don't know if the cover kits handle replacement of the boat snap receptacles.

The male part of the snap that remains on the boat after the cover is removed can be replaced quite easily-
In the middle of the male snap is a philips screw - simply remove the damaged snap & go to Home Depot/Lowes and get a pack of snaps of the correct size and replace,
Be prepared for the hole on the boat to be stripped out from learning to dock the boat
- have the next size up in self tapping screw available
Good luck -

If the snaps are ripped from the cover you will have to reinforce the area on the top where it has come out. This requires a commercial sewing machine and backing in order to place the snap in the correct spot again. I have a commercial snap press and have done many of these this summer. Please email and we can talk further. 4thelake@charter.net or visit pushwatermarine.com for phone and directions. I am on the lake.
