Howdy! We are new too. I enjoy reading this forum and need some advice from those who have been around awhile. Last weekend my husband & I, 3 kids, & dog went for a walk along the lake shore. The kids were crawling on some rocks that are submerged during high water but easily accessibe now. The homeowner came out, screaming at us to get off his *$#@ property before he calls the police. We grabbeld the dog, covered the children's ears and fled! There is no way we will ever go there again but was he right to say we were on his property? A quick look at my deed says my line ends at the high water mark. We want to be good neighbors.

Not sure of the legality but, I am sure of 1 thing.......your neighbor is a jerk. Glad I have good neighbors. Oh yeah, welcome to the lake. You have no idea how much plearure is ahead of you and you can walk on my shoreline anytime.

Thanks, I may take you up on that. You restored my faith in humanity. You can walk on my shoreline anytime too!

Should have called his bluff and let him call the police....They would have reamed him a new one.

It is my understanding that Ala. Power owns everything inside of the 490 ft. elevation so if you were trespassing you were on Ala. Power land. That is also why you have to have a permit from them to do anything (docks, etc.) on the lake bottom. Sorry your neighbor is a jerk as walking on the shoreline in the winter particularly at sunset is one of the great pleasures of Lake Martin.

Hey newbie. I'm glad I'm not the only new kid in town. I thought the old timers might pick on me.

I just happened to meet with the Army Corp of engineers and the APC (Alabama Power Company) at my shoreline for some permits to our new place. They told me that APC owns all property inside the full pool water line (this is also evident on your real estate plat) so you should feel free to walk on any shoreline.

I'm not sure what part of the lake your on but it doesn't sound like your east of 49 (that's where we are) because everyone I've met over there so far seems to be your new best friend as soon as you met 'em. Nice folks!

I would have to fully agree with lamont's post.

Welcome all you laker fans. We will going tonight to spend the night and paint the last wall in our den. I can't want to have a margarita at Niffer's. They are the best!

Thanks for the moral support! Our other neighbors are very friendly and nice. I won't let one bad apple spoil my fun.

Tell you what I did... I knew that this was a small communuty and some people were probably going to have a different view of things so I went up and down the street and introduced myself to the neighbors. I let them know I wanted to be a good neighbor as well and if I ever did anything that was irritating to please talk to me.

Now there are some norrow minds wherever you go including Atlanta that just won't get along. Those you have to ignore or set limits with. Most of the AL folks I have met have been just great. Good neighbors, sometimes good friends. We look after each other's property too. Give that a try. Good Luck!

Welcome to all the new folks!! I have been at the lake for 3 years now, and am happy to say that I have never met your neighbor or anyone else who acted like that for that matter. Even if he were right (and he wasn't), there's no sense in being so rude. That's just not the Southern way. Hopefully he is not your nextdoor neighbor that you will necessarily see frequently. As the other posters offered.....you can walk on my shoreline too....by the way, if you find the socket wrench I dropped in the water last summer, please put it on my dock! Thanks.

Welcome to the neighborhood!!

Your 'neighbor' was out of bounds. But remember, never argue with an idiot, bystanders might not can tell the difference! lol

A wise man once said.... "The only way to HAVE a good neighbor, is to BE a good neighbor!"

FYI...... Alabama Power holds an easement 5 feet beyond the 490' mark on all 750 beautiful miles of the shoreline. (Actually not just here, but on all ALA Power resevoirs.)
