the lake being down over 4 feet on May 1st? Been coming to lake since 1978 and can never remember a slower spring rise.

Remember several takedowns early in mid to late summer. Remember I think in 2000 on Labor Day, the lake was down over five feet.

What is disturbing is that I don't see anything on the horizon short of a hoped for benign tropical storm to help.

I remember in 2000 having to take our boat out of the water in late August. It was a bad drought that year. I can't remember the dates but I've also seen piers go underwater in years past.

1988 is the worst year that I remember. I don't think that the lake made it past 488 that summer. It was in the low 480's throughout the summer. We got our boat out maybe once before our boat ramp was left high and dry, and we had to swim almost in the middle of the lake to find water that wasn't too thick to drink and too thin to plow. The lake did make it close to full pool in September when a tropical storm dumped several inches of rain on the area, but by then most people had packed it in for the year.

1988 was bad, but in the all important summer months the level never dropped below 485, even though it never got much above that either. But in the summer of 1986 the level was below 485 for most of July and August, and was down near 482 by Labor Day weekend.

Thanks. When I read this this morning I thought 86 was the bad year, but then figured it was my faulty memory. In 88 I only got to the lake twice I think, early spring and 4th of July so I just assumed it was the year it was so bad. Glad somebody has good brain cells left.

I remember going to Kowliga that year and there was a pile of lower units out beside the building that was almost as big as the building. Mechanic told me that was about all they did that summer was replace lower units damaged by idiots thinking they could buzz around just like it any other year. I imagine it will be about the same this year.

I agree. 1986 was the worst. We added a floating pier that year but still had to add a plank to walk to the floating pier from under the permanent pier. Our floating pier usually has eight feet of water at full pool. In '86, I don't believe it got above 484, at best.

I also chewed up a prop rounding Willow Point that year. Lower unit was Ok, just needed a new prop.

Yea, I spun a prop in Blue Creek during the 2000 drought. Hit a high spot and churned some mud. Immediately started home and made it to the mouth of Manoy before it spun out completely. Had to call a neighbor to come and get me.

I agree that about 484 was probably as high as it got that year too. Another thing is I just don't remember all the whining about it back then. Folks just took it in stride and carried on. Of course there are a lot more folks now, but the whining still gets on my nerves.
