I just reread the thread below about Lay Lake. I did not mean to offend anyone that lives are plays there. I have friends there myself. I have not followed the progress there that closely since moving to Martin full time in 2000. It must be getting better if it takes 15lbs of fish at one sitting to have to worry. Monsanto must be doing OK with the clean-up upstream. I also did not mean to compare Lay to a mud hole, I literally meant mud hole. I have spent MANY great hours on Lay myself. Do they still do the annual Pig Picking Party at Cedar Creek? I ask someone else this just a while back but they did not know what I was talking about, so I assume it no longer happens. The last t-shirt I had was the 5th annual pig pickin, but it seems like a buddy has #9. Your t-shirt was your ticket back then. I have also heard that Cedar Creek Marina is closed. The Pig Pickin took place at a fellows house right beside it. I also heard that the other side of the bridge is now a s/d with 'mini-mansions'. I really need to ride down there soon. I spent many nights crappy fishin off that bridge and more than a few days diving off of it. Scares me to think about now.

There was also a development just north on the river outside of C'burg. I can't remember the name, but it was common waterfront with a small par 3 golf course. I think like 3-4 holes was all it had. I was wondering if it was still a viable subdivision and if the covenants were being enforced?

No problem LTL...I'm just lucky to live here 365 days a year...As for Cedar Creek Marina, yes it closed years ago....Across the bridge is now a development called Waters Edge..Still in development but most houses are $500000 up to a couple over $1 million..The small development with the par three is called Riverwalk...It's actually a double-wide development.. The little course has 9 holes and isn't too bad--my wife's sister lives there...
Honestly, if someone was a good boat mechanic they could buy Cedar Creek Marina, do some work to it and fix boats at the same time and make a killing..There is nowhere within 40 miles of Sylacauga to get your boat worked on...Along with the fact that the only place that serves food on the water is Layport Marina up at the dam...

Funny how things work out. I rmembered the name this morning when I read the Daily Home Online. There is a metion of Riverwalk along with a walkathon for breast cancer. I did not remember it being double wides though. I guess I wasn't paying al ot of attention back during the development. I rode through while they were still moving dirt. I am surprised that that, what seemed like a samall area to me, has a 9 hole par 3. I seem to remember reading covenants about attached parking, number of cars allowed, storage buildings and the like. Covenants read much like any new s/d.

I really need to get up there and and just ride around some. Seems like every time I go back to the area it is for a specific purpose that puts me on a tight time line. I heard about the widening of plant road at 280, but they didn't buy all the houses on plant road like they told me they would when the engineered that project 9-10 years ago. That blows my mind because one of my old houses is only about 12-13ft off of the ROW. Lots of for sale signs in the old neighborhood from what I hear. I guess I got out at the right time, but I do miss that rental income.

Yeah, the bridge on Plant Road right off of 280 is ripped apart right now...I don't know about the houses for sale but my wife's grandfather owns several houses in that area and it's business as usual...Bring the boat on up and ride around, even though we have water it's still not very crowded..
