The DARE park nest that fell down last winter has been replaced. It is the same area, but across the slough out on the point. It is not 100yds are so from the old site. You can tell it is a new nest because it is small and you can actually see through it. I am sure by the time most of you get back on the water next year it will be much larger though.

THAT NEST BELONGS TO TWO YOUNG EAGLES. THE PARENTS WITH THE WHITE HEADS HAVE BEEN COMING BACK ALL SUMMER AND SITTING IN THE TREES WHERE THE OLD DARE PARK NEST USE TO BE HOWEVER. THE BEST WAY TO SEE THE NEXT IS TO SAY BACK FROM THE POINT 100 + FEET. IT BEEN HARD TO SEE WITH THE LEAVES, BUT SHOULD BE VERY EASY TO SEE ONCE THE LEAVES FALL. IT'S ON THE POINT ACCROSS FROM THE POINT WHERE THE OLD NEST WAS.TP THE RIGHT WHEN FACING THE SLOUGH.

I aagree about best viewed from a distance. As you get close you can't see it. But I believe the nest is the adults and the eaglets will strike out on their own when the time is right. We will know soon enough. I thought that the adults had moved further away after loosing thier home.

Where is the nest exactly? Is it on the beech side of dare park, the picnic area or the boat ramp? I would really like to take my daughters down there to see it.

It is on the beach side out in big water. Facing toward the beach it will be on the right, south of DARE park. It is straight across the big water from Youngs Island. Kinda hard to explain if you didn't know where the old one was. It was more visible than the new one. If you ride the shoreline about 100 feet or so out and check out the points real close you can find it. Look for old bare trees that are higher than most others around. This nest is still small to so that makes it harder to spot. Good Luck!! It should make a great adventure for the kids.

If you are looking at a lake martin map that you buy, it is located on that point under the letter r in "old Youngs Ferry". The old nest was back in that slough just to the left and the eagles are sometimes sitting in those trees. Those have the bald eagle head. I agree they are adults in the new nest, but do not have the white head and are under 5 years old. Take binoculars for the best view for your grandchildren. Have fun. While you are up that way, you are close to graveyard island. It's covered in climbing roses though, so watch out for the thorns.
