Subject:   County Boat Ramp Near Veazey's

I was looking at an older plat map of the Pitchford Hollow area and noticed that there is a Tallapoosa County boat ramp designated near Veazey's marina. In checking around, it seems that the ramp has been abandoned since the late 50s or early 60s, yet it still shows up on a current plat. Does anyone know anything about the status of this county ramp? A ramp on that side of the lake would be critical in case of an emergency, and would be very convenient for those of us who fish. Currently you have to launch at either Parker Creek or Kowaliga bridge. In an emergency in the Pitchford Hollow area, the extra time it takes to travel from either of those ramps could literally mean the difference between life and death.

If the county is collecting taxes to maintain a ramp near Veazey's, is there any way to have them actually accomplish that task?

Our old family place is practically next door to Veazey's and I never even knew there was a county ramp in that area. I don't see it on the map I have handy either. That area certainly NEEDS a public ramp. It was always a pain to put in/out as Veazey's would NOT let you use their ramp for love, money, emergency or breakdown. That is why I quit trading with them years before we sold the old place. Fortunately some friends right at the mouth of Pitchford Hollow have a ramp and let us use it whenever we needed.

I am not positive, but you maybe referring to the Johnson Creek Road boat ramp. If so, Johnson Creek Road is off 259 between County Roads 12 and 20.

I think someone posted a couple of weeks ago that this ramp was now unusable.

Lets hope someone else will jump in and either confirm or correct the above.
