I wanted everyone on the forum to hear my thoughts on this one...

GhostFleet,
I grow very tired of this miniscule urban legend. Those kids weren't going to a hotel (It didn't exist) they were going to tresspass on my family property & vandalize my family summer home in just the same way people trespass onto my property today. Sometimes people get what they ask for. One of them should have had a train schedule in their back pocket. I have very little sympathy for vandals, thieves & others who have no respect for others property.

R U referring to what was know as the Sturdivant Mansion and an incident that occurred on or about Christmas back in the 50"s?

Did some kids jump off the trestle to avoid an on comming train?

Were there members of a famous local family involved?

I thought that that place burned down in the 70's and people stole the tiles from the roof.

What happened to the old car that was parked there?

I must apologize for opening such a touchy thing. My request was genuine in that I was doing research on Lake Martin history and this incident of my childhood was brought to mind. I never intended to step on anyone's toes.

I visited the old ruins in 1971 and didn't vandalize it - just looked and don't remember much being there in the way of a building - just a foundation. Throughout my growing-up the legend of the hotel, or mansion was prevalent.
