While reading the article linked below I couldn't help but wonder why it is that a quarry this far away from the lake 'will definately pollute the lake' but the one you linked before doesn't. Another one of those things that make me go hmmmmm......

LTL,
I agree with you on his one! Devlopment restrictions around and near the lake would be very sensible wouldn't they? Very sensible indeed, like the boat ban huh? Picking your areas to infringe on those "freedoms" seems reasonable when you like the idea. I bet the owner of the 334 acres like the idea of a quarry...you gonna defend his rights?

They bought the land with the intentions of the quarry and the permits I might add. Then some folks decided to force their opinion on the masses and got a new round of hearings.
The above post was tounge in cheek bob. That quarry will not pollute the lake. That is jsut the fall back position for anyone who opposes any growth anywhere near the lake. They know that will get folks attention, whether it is true or not make no difference. But if it is true, how is that a quarry that far away can be denied permits due to pollution, but the quarry sitting right in the middle of the 'horseshoe' of the lake is NOT polluting it. Why no outcry about that quarry? Why no public hearings? Why no outrage? As I have said many times, 'we' only have selective outrage round these parts!!

We ALL know the real reason.
While the silt pond at the Windermere quarry most definitely reduces the sediment that is ultimately deposited in the lake, we ALL know it is only a token gesture, nowhere near what it needs to be for a quarry of that size. The Kellyton quarry, even if completely unmanaged, would not deliver as much sediment to "the Lake" in a year as the quarry at Windermere does every day.
