...boating happenings from the 4th.

Me...well, it was just amazing at how close people would pass others.
3 or 4 times on my one and only outing on the 4th, rookie boneheads would mmet you or overtake you on either side at a mere 30 or 40 ft.

It reminded me why I haven't been on the water in years for the 4th.

Same here. Meant to get out earlier yesterday (4th), but did not make it out on water until around 11 am. Rode for about 30 minutes with not five minutes of it pleasure. All the driver can do is watch out for others, especially the PWC’s. We went to the concert and fireworks last night and are back in B’ham now. Will be back to enjoy the lake again Wednesday or Thursday.

I saw a PWC after sunset (almost dark) without lights... He was also pulling a tube... While the skier law is one hour after sunset and he was probably within that hour, the light law is at sunset. Although I saw the PWC without problems because its color was white, the tube he was pulling was not as obvious.

Thought it was 30 mins.

Anyhoo, I saw a pwc weaving thru the crowd of boats at the rock..pulling a tuber 40 ft behind him...now he was idling, but wth?

I can't find it on the Alabama site (a lot to read)... Below is a link to a document that summarizes laws by state showing skiing time restrictions.

It would be good to find the Alabama source of information though just to make sure. Perhaps the Marine Police can chime in to confirm the one hour after sunset restriction. It would be interesting to see if this is enforced by a GPS celestial information.

And you're right...it's crazy, but right.

And to think I aced the boat-ed test.

...one should be able to do a simple copy n paste in the body for a link (for pictures too, for goodness sake).

And the biggest thing this forum has never had is the newest post jumping to the top of the page.

Is that do-able here?

It's the second biggest reason I don't come here often.

I knew it was going to be bad when within 10 minutes of leaving Harbor Point I had to kill my engine twice to prevent running over an idiot on a PWC. They both cut me off coming from my left, and crossed my path less than 30 feet in front of me. The scariest thing I saw was three kids on a tube being pulled behind a Sea-ray leaving the rock, they were in a train of about ten boats, and if one had fallen off it could have been bad. Luckily they made it through. Good thing is the traffic normally calms down from here on out.

Yes very do-able... I'll look at it in the next few days. Not sure if a new direct list format would be better for that than this cascading format but either could work that way.
