Voting a straight ticket. No matter who your candidate is, you want your vote to count.
visit snopes.com to verify and type in "voting a straight ticket" You will be informed that voting straight ticket may omit your vote for the presidential candidate of your choice. You must mark the vote for your candidate first. Otherwise you may throw away your vote to someone other than your choice.

If you read the entire snopes article, you'll see that they list two sample emails. The first says that you MUST FIRST punch the presidential candidates name and THEN choose the "straight party" option, or your presidential vote won't count.

The second email says if you do what the first email says (choose a president, then choose a straight party vote) then your presidential vote won't count.

Obviously, both of these emails can't be right, since they say the exact opposite thing.

Reading the snopes explanation, you'll see that the FIRST email example applies only to North Carolina, because of an old law that prohibits the presidential race from being included with the rest of the "straight party" elections. The SECOND email applies to a situation that occurred in New Mexico and was supposedly corrected.

The smart thing to do is to stay away from straight party voting, and take the time and effort to make a selection in each individual race. Not only does this ensure that you're voting the way you want in every race, it also ensures that you're voting in every race; with straight party voting that's not always the case, since some parties might not be represented in every race.

I agree, but it was a little scary. I will be asking the secretary of State office about this tomorrow to clarify.
