I was on the lake for the fireworks show, even though it was a little warm out we all had a great time. I was wondering if anyone had any trouble this year getting home after the show. We stayed up by the bridge so that we could head out just as they were ending. When we were leaving I was keeping my eye out for other people around me and as i glanced behind me I saw that there were 2 or 3 marine police boats that had their lights on pulling people over. Or atleast it looked like they were pulling people over. Anways in my 19 ft. ski boat it was not too bad but I can imagine if someone was in a smaller boat it wouldn't be much fun navigating yourself back home. I also noticed that there were a BUNCH of people all weekend driving around with their docking lights on. Also I have begun to notice where people have put flashing lights on the back of their boats, however this is confusing because hazard buoys also have flashing lights so it just makes it harder to distinguish between the two. Anyways we had a great trip this weekend and hope everyone else did. Also my thoughts and prayers are also with the family of the boy who was killed this weekend.

We had a wonderful time at the fireworks as well. I couldn't imagine spending the 4th any other way. As for the marine police, not sure if they were pulling people over leaving, I do know in the past they would simply mark the main channels heading out of the area so they are easier to find in the dark, and so that people can clear the area out in a safer manner.

Going toward StillWaters the Marine Police appeared to be simply marking the channel. This was my first fourth of July on the lake. The fireworks were marvelous and the behavior of the boaters heading home was quite satisfactory. It looked to me like there could have been from 1000 to 2000 boats out there. Does anyone know how many there were?

The fireworks were very good. We got out about 7 and there were not many boats but by the time they started at 9 quite a few. The one thing my wife commented on was that the behavior of the boaters towards each other was better this year. the last couple of years there were always arguments and yelling at each other usually the result of too much alchohol.

Seemed to me to be fewer boaters out this year. I saw one incident where a boater left the show about 5 min before the finale...I guess to get a jump on the traffic heading home. He apparently decided it would be appropriate to get up to a good planing speed while weaving through all the boats that were drifting or anchored .......saw the MP "convince" him/her otherwise.

Still saw a few pontooners cruising with docking lights on....perhaps they didn't get the memo!!

I continually flashed my docking lights at several boats with their docking lights on this past weekend and did not even phase them to consider what I was trying to tell them. Started to pull up to a couple and tell them to turn them off, but figured if they were on they probably did not have a clue how to steer the boat either so I stayed away or better yet have any business being on the lake at night .

Sort of like on the highway - if someone flashes their bright lights at you, my first response is to check and see if my bright lights are on by mistake. So lets see if soembody continually blinks their docking lights at me - would most folks not think do I have my docking lights on, GUESS NOT !!!!
