Found this on t he homepage under News:

During Thursday’s Lake Martin Relicensing meeting each audience member wanting to address a question to the Alabama Power Company representatives were, themselves, asked to first announce their name and group affiliation. Most of those with questions identified themselves as lake property owners who were attending because of their interests in the future of Lake Martin.

A gentleman introduced himself to me during the lunch hour and asked if the Lake Martin area had a homeowners/boatowners (hobo) organization. I told him that the only operating group with the hobo name on this lake is the Coosa County Hobos. I mentioned that Lake Watch’s single purpose is water quality and that the umbrella group, Coalition of Associations at Lake Martin (CALM), is presently only open to membership of other groups and associations such as Lake Watch. The Lake Martin Resource Association has not operated as a group since losing their paid coordinator several years ago.

Perhaps now is the right time to start an organization of homeowners & boat owners. That is, potentially, a large number of individuals, families, and businesses in the tri-county Lake Martin area. Such an organization would have to require annual dues assessments of its members, usually $25, to cover the costs of newsletter printing, bulk mail stamp, postage, a worldwide web domain name, and a website. We can get guidance from hobo organizations that are active on Lake Harris/Wedowee and Lake Jordan.

I’m willing to help others to organize a new group but ten additional volunteers would be needed to get started and share the workload and as initial officers in the organization. Nobody would receive any form of compensation from hobo dues received. It would be strictly a volunteer force. If any of you share the interest expressed by the gentleman at today’s Relicensing meeting please phone me at (256) 825-2642, send an e-mail message to me at drheinzen@charter.net or send a letter to me at 316 Magnolia Drive, Dadeville, AL 36853. Please express whether your interest is as a dues paying member or as a volunteer officer/organizer.

Dave Heinzen
Chairman, Coalition of Associations at Lake Martin

Found this the order day and thought such an organization might as well be a good idea for Lake Martin.

Check out the Smith Lake Forum for additional information regarding their association which has been discussed on their forum.

I would be interested in being a "dues paying member". I wish I had the time to help as a volunteer but can't at this time. Keep us posted on this forum. Thanks for your work and willingness to volunteer.

From the link in Mav's post:

"In general the entire meeting could be summarized with APC thinks they own Smith Lake and they do not care what the stakeholders think. It was obvious that APC cares far more for its stockholders than it does about the stakeholders."

Hmmmm..... now I wonder if that attitude could come from the fact that THEY DO OWN THE LAKE!!

And as a Southern Company Stock holder I am proud to know that APCO puts stockholders first and cry babies, er I mean Stake holders second.

You don't have to read not a single word of what I post. Idiocy is idiocy and I like to point it out when I see it. Especially among what I would presume to be upper income, higher than average education people whom I would think had a grip on reality. Why would I trust anyone that would put out an idiotic statement like that to be able to 'negotiate' on my behalf. Trust me, APCO reads that kind of statement and just smirks and laughs it off. They said in the statement that APCO was only there to 'placate' them. I can assure you the APCO reps that were there were not so ignorant. Why would they even think about negotiating in good faith with folks that feel that their recreation should be APCO's #1 priority. They don't even take such groups serious, and why should they?

I do not disagree with everything you say, it's just that you say it in such a tone that leads one to believe your neck is a red shinning beacon for all the world to admire. And I ,for one, don't. Some of us get tired of you pointing out as much as you do and would enjoy moving on to other subjects. With that said, have a nice day and enjoy dinner.

As everyone knows, there are several organizations around the lake with specific agendas. Perhaps the C.A.L.M. group could morph into a super group with members at large with common interests--the betterment of Lake Martin, along with the special interest groups. Any interest from CALM?

Tried to email you but it did not seem to go through....

Count me in. I am a weekender that lives fulltime in Bham, but my job (sales) does give me a lot of flexability for weekday trips to the lake (which I try to take advantage of). My email is john4auburn@bellsouth.net.
Email me for my cell number to take things a little further....

Hope I can help,
John
