I am looking for someone, or a couple of someones, to work in my yard helping to clear brush, spread pinestraw, etc. I do not need a yard service, as we have no grass, just help to do heavy yardwork 2 or 3 times a year. I live in the Windermere area... can anyone reccommend (sp?) someone?

Bug:
I need help about 2 or 3 times a year as well. What I usually do is call the Lighthouse Rehab Facility in Alex City and pick up 1 or 2 day laborers to assist me on the weekends as needed.
Pay them $8.00 an hour and feed them lunch. Have to go up to Alex City and pick them up and have them back by 5:00pm.
Have used these folks for the past 3 years for Spring cleaning the yard and outside of the house, etc. and for the most part they are decent to hard workers, every once an a while I get a somebody lazy, but I do not use them again. Just have to supervise them, but usually I put them on a job and then go do another job myself.
I usually call on Thursday to set up a helper for Saturday.
If interested here is the contact info:

Good for you Mav. Those guys need the work and for the most part will do right by you. A friend and former coworker of mine is the director there. I am sure if you let her know of any problems, they would be addressed. For longer term help there is also a work release center in Alex City. Those guys are acutually still prisoners who are transitioning back into the work force. Many of them also make good, highly motivated workers. I hired one out of the C'birg camp years ago to help remodel an old house. I paid him $200/wk plus cigarettes and meals. Best money I ever spent. Of course there are some low lifes there as well, but just take them back one time and tell the warden you don't want him any more and thats that.

Thanks for y'alls suggestions. I'm female and am a bit intimidated by the idea of picking up workers at a rehab place... do you think it would be OK? I'm usually not such a baby...

If you live alone, i would not consider it. If you choose to do so, I would talk to the director about making sure the person you hire is not there for anything to serious. Especially for actions that would be risky as a woman. Our high school allows people to contact the guidance department and post for work by students. They also post for community service hours. Each kid must have at least 5 each year to graduate. You might try that route as well.
