Can anyone recommend a good plumbing company that serves the Lake Martin area?

Windemere Road/Ridge area.

Looking for a plumber with a "hydro-electricial engineering degree."  In other words, I want to install an electrical valve that is controlled by an on/off switch that allows you to turn the main water line off when leaving the lake which prevents flooding, etc., when things go wrong!  Dentist offices use them since they have so many water lines...

That can be done. If you have an alarm system, a relay can be wired to the alarm so that when you leave home and set the alarm, it will turn off the water. And if your alarm system can be remotely activated/de-activated bu phone, the  system can be turned on or off (if plants needed watering).

The down side of this arrangement is that if you lose power, you will have no water. A battery back-up would work until the battery ran down.

I would also recommend that the solenoid valve be placed ABOVE GROUND. It will require maintenence.

It only takes 2 seconds to turn off the main valve before the water meter which I can do by hand. You can buy a rod that the water company uses so you don't have to get on the ground. Sounds like overkill installing an electrical switch. I open the faucets, especially, the one outside which is the lowest and then turn off the valve at the meter. All the water drains out and I leave. I do the same at our main residence before we head to the lake.

At point well made. Some people like convenience. Some people have physical limitations. Some people walk to the store and some people drive. Different strokes for different folks.

Hit the send button to quickly.

I'm sure the person has his reasons for wanting such a system. I often wondered why some folks have electric garage door openers when you can get out of the car and open it manually. That too, could be considered overkill by some.

Welcome to the age of automation.

I agree, very simple. But remember to turn off your water heater before turning the water off and refill the water heater prior to turning it (the water heater) back on.
