On the SUPREME COURT. OMG, you may need a brain to get into college again! Colleges have been dumbed down for decades because “we can’t leave certain dummies behind.” Not only for admission, but for studies as well…

I would change it to YEA for originalists. Frankly, the admissions policies at schools like Harvard and Michigan are a clear violation of the Civil Rights Act, which farm ore Republicans voted for than Democrats. This is good news for Asian and Indian students that have been denied admission to these schools simply because of their race. Now we could have a whole other conversation about whether they should actually want to go to these schools......but they do....and they should be admitted based on merit and not race, gender, etc.

They will find a way to keep the admission standands without saying/documenting what they are actually doing.

They may try but there is a lot of data that will make that obvious. Saw a study that indicated that if they eliminated these policies Asians would benefit the most as they are the most discriminated against. Whites would lose a litte. Hispanic even more and blacks the most.....by a lot.

Apparently, you will still be able to get information about your race still in front of Admissions, because you can write your essay about your "expereince".
The Obama's are up in arms about this, since they both benefitted from affirmative actions. Biden is going to speak out on it today. You know what he will say.
I'm glad to see it. You want equality, then you compete on your grades and scores. That is equality.

I have no problem with the ruling. I do wonder if this means U of Alabama, Auburn, and U of Georgia are going to "hire" more white players for their football teams? Interesting that Justice Thomas attended Yale with the help of Affirmative Action.

Have they been signing players based on Affirmative Action before today? This ruling just lets Academics be handled the same way as Athletics.

Bingo! Goofy is so confused that he doesn't realize that his argument is a self own. College athletes are selected based on merit, not the color of their skin. It is blatantly obvious given that the racial makeup of most sports is dominated by black athletes....because they are the best. Not so with academics at schools like Harvard where they violate the 14th Amendment and the Equal Rights Act by making admission decisions based on race. If you based college athletics based on some racial quota a lot of deserving black athletes would never make it.

Hopefully, this decision will be followed by a halt in dumbing down college courses because diverse attendees cannot pass courses, which is the unintentional effect we have lived with for decades. Same effect has happened in secondary education. If you have young relatives in college, discuss your experience with them and compare their educational requirements with yours…..education has been dumbed down for a reason. Maybe 20 years from now this moment will have a huge effect.

I think the biggest positive from this is that minority students will have a better graduation rate as they will attend colleges where they have a better opportunity to compete.

Sadly though, we already have many kids graduating college who have not been educated.

What I find interesting based on two rulings this week
1 - race for college admission is bad.
2 - race for voting is good - see several states now having to redo voting maps to create "dominate black districts"

Not really - They know what their pronouns are and how to swap genders daily based on whatever someone tells them as well as how to make money suing people for hurting their feelings.
Now reading/writing/STEM - yeah I would say that the teaching/learning is lacking.

Clarence Thomas did benefit from Affirmative Action, and he wishe he hadn't. He said that it was hard to find a job after he graduated law school, because people thought that he might not be as good as his peers, because of affirmative action.
I remember when affirmative action was a way for women to get a leg up. I have never believed that any standards should be degraded just so women could compete with. No doubt, I benefitted from affirmative action; but at the same time I would have to prove over and over that I merited the opportunity. To me, equal means equal, and I think that should be the law of the land. If you can't make it into a primo school without getting extra points for your race, you'll just have to go to a school where you can compete.
Biden says this decision is from "not a normal court", but realistically other than minorities, I think most Americans think you should have to compete on your merit.

Oh, I'm not so sure about that. Most of them have been well educated in wokeness, anti-American sentiment, leftism, atheism, radical feminism, white supremacy, soft bigotry of low expectations, etc. As for actual subject matter that will assist them in getting a good paying job and succeeding in the real world.....maybe not so much.

A sport scholaship based on performance that overlooks lower grades from high school is not merit based on a college's basic purpose of educatiing not playing sports. Basketball players who are primarily black attend college for one year and turn pro. They attend school to play ball...
Legacy admissions is a "great example" of primarily white wealthy merit admission.
I don't support either race based or legacy admission.

I could seriously care less about legacy admissions since they don't discriminate against anyone. Regardless of race, if your parent attended a school it helps. So if a black person attended a HBC then his children would take advantage of legacy admissions over others. Big whoop. I suspect unlike affirmative action, most people wouldn't oppose this but who knows.
Likewise, I could care less if it goes away because I believe in merit. But if it does, the only minorities that will benefit are Asians (including those from India) and even fewer blacks will get into these schools as they will no longer be able to use the legacy advantage if their parent went there. As with most leftist ideas, the unintended consequences are worse than what they are trying to cure.
But I doubt that SCOTUS will eliminate them because there is no discrimination. Legacy advantage is open to any race that attended a school.
