I was a bit curious about something I saw today (Sunday). For several years my family and I have enjoyed many picnics on the small beaches around, mainly behind the rock close to the new bridge. We always enjoyed the location and even left trash cans and chairs for orthers to enjoy. Today I was greeted by No Trespassing signs all along the area and even on the other beaches around the rock. Does anyone know if these are for real or if someone is being a jack*** and just doesn't want anyone else to use the area? Thanks all.

You probably wouldn't like somebody coming over to your property , camping out and leaving stuff on your property. Think about it....

We always picked up our trash and did our best to make it easy for other people. Thats just life I guess.

That's ridiculous. People have enjoyed jumping off Chimney Rock for years. Everyone understands the risk associated with jumping and they jump anyway. It is fun. I know that not many people these days are concerned with the fun of others, but please quit trying to ruin things for people. It's the lake. People go here to enjoy watersports, swimming, and, yes, even cliff diving.

They probably are really concerned about 2 things though... 1. General liability if an injury occurs on their property - courts have generally held that you must post to prevent liability and 2. Fire- if this were to happen then the property would certainly lose value. Yes, it's life in the big city now...sigh.

Have you ever jumped from Chimney Rock?

I'll bet that you haven't. I'd bet that no one has.

Before you post an answer, look at a map!

I don't think anyone paid attention to what you were saying!! However, I agree. Most people don't know that where the jumping occurs is Acapulco Rock with Chimney Rock being where the swing used to be. And yes, you are correct. Given it's exact location, I doubt that anyone has ever actually done Chimney Rock since it sits so far back from the edge.

at least to the point of betting that no one has ever jumped from Chimney Rock and lived to tell about it.

as much as you've been on the lake, I find it hard to believe you've never jumped from Chimney Rock.

Well, those signs just might "vanish" this weekend....

So let's meet at CHIMNEY ROCK this weekend, so you can jump from it; do it (and live) and I'll pay up.

BUT-- and pay attention, because this is important-- we're talking CHIMNEY ROCK. We're not talking "any old place on Chimney Rock Island," we're talking Chimney Rock itself.

And-- keep paying attention, this is even more important-- we're not talking about jumping from "The Rocks;" that is actually Acupulco Rock, which is not only NOT Chimney Rock, but isn't even on the same island.

To clarify: you know the place where all the boats hang out on the weekends? That is NOT Chimney Rock. It's close, only one island away, but the two are NOT the same, have never been the same, and will never be the same no matter how many people insist on getting the facts wrong.

can we put those on the line?? LOL

I'm still willing to take that bet, but keep this in mind.

....but keep this in mind.

No one ever said water had to splash or even get touched.
Never said it had to be the top of chimney rock.
I think i'm still up to hanging and jumping a few feet with a good role for a whole lot of money.
It might take this smoker a while to get back up there again, have to be willing to wait.
I would post a picture of Chimney Rock, but in the picture it's as illusive as it's name is to most people on the lake.
I know the lake, your clues were not needed but appreciated.

Now, shall we still bet?

And, since I've LOST money on the book, that means you'll owe me, right? ;-)

I think TIVO just found out that he didn't know what he was talking about, and now he's making up a nice cover story.

I hope the rain helps the fishing this weekend!
