We negotiate with Alabama Power to stop all power generation at Martin Dam from say April to the end of October. The EXTRA cost of generating this power from other sources would be added to the power bills of all owners and businesses with shoreline property on Lake Martin during these months. A launch fee would be assessed to all persons putting boats into the lake who were not in the above group during these months. The lake would be maintained at not less than 489.0 for all months.

Are you in?

This would have helped if someone could have predicted a drought. Otherwise we get good water levels by mother nature... If there is no drought next year then your suggestion has everyone paying for what? They would still have to let the excess water out the Dam...

I would ....Before moving here every major lake in Georgia requires a $2.00 launch fee. You can also purchase yearly passes for this also.

Wouldn't this require someone to be available at each launch to collect the fee?

How about a semi-honor system? You have a heavy duty box with envelopes to place your money in with an information slip. You enter your name and boat number on the slip, detach a stub you keep with you and deposit envelope with money in the box. Two bucks sounds way to cheap. I would think more like $5.00.

Water patrol could spot check and look for detached stub if not a Lake Resident or guest.

You have to enter the lauch vehicle info that is in the parking lot of the launch site.

Even if not frequently checked, it might cause some to attempt honesty.

here is how it worked in georgia....when you launch your boat the is a metal envelope stand...you remove an envelope and punch out the day you are there monday- sunday...the envolope is labled with a number. you put in your 2 dollars and place it into the slot on the stand. that number matches the number you tear off the side of the envelope and you put that number in the windsheild of you truck..then at their convenience the water patrol removes the money and checks the numbers....semi honor system..

at Talladega National Forest ATV Trails

You take envelope out of mailbox
Fill out info and deposit $5.00
Then tear off stub and place in the lock box.

Have never seen anyone without a stub on their dashboard.

You're forgetting one thing. Alabama Power is responsible for maintaining minimum flow on the river system. This is mandated thru the Corps of Engineers. This means water must be released to keep the river flowing at a predetermined rate. It's not all about making electricity, they are required to release enough water to meet minimum flow. Also, during this time of the year, evaporation accounts for 1/4 to 1/2 inches of lake level per day. Given the drought conditions (not as much water coming into the lake) lake levels will continue to drop.

Save your money and pray for rain.
