First off, I do not know all the facts.

I served and was always told, by the Geneva Convention, all you were to reveal was your name, rank. serial number, and date of birth.

I doubt anyone we are engaged with in battle today are members of the Geneva Convention. The Genveva Convention is basically obsolete in this day in age.

We can also bet and hope our interrogation techniques do not go beyond these simple facts in a terrorist enviroment. I would hope the Geneva Convention and US Citizen Rights to Legal Questioning do not apply to terrorist.

I also do not know what our soldiers are instructed to do if captured in the current battle enviroment.

Then again, we all hope we could pass the test, but I doubt many of us would.

The only thing, I would question here is what this soldier did or did not do to assist in his capture. He was 23, and this is not an 18 year old soldier or supposedly and immature individual.

Just my personal opinion as a former soldier.

Feb, I agree with you that this was not an 18 year old kid and none of us knows how we will react if we are put the test. It's why we are told to pray that we are not put to the test because none of us knows for sure.

Archie and others want to compare this guy to McCain which in my view is an absolute joke and pathetic. McCain was viciously tortured for months in unspeakable ways before he broke. I looked at the video and this guy didn't look to me like he was mistreated in any obvious way and he has only been captive for what, few days?. Maybe they put a gun to his head and said say this or die and he cracked. Only he and his captors know the truth.

But I think you hit the nail on the head as a former soldier and that is part of what Peter's said, this guy seems to have gone much further than you would expect in his statement given the timing. Why, we don't know. I hope he is released safely under whatever the circumstances are and I am praying for him and his family. I know Archie will heap disdain on my for praying for his safe release but I can live with his scorn.

Thank You MatiniMan. My intent with my post was not to open the door for another attack on a fella Forum Member.

Far be it, I was hoping my post would help draw all of us together. Meaning as Americans and not that of political affiliations to understand what we and most importantly our soldiers maybe facing in a very strange enviroment to the USA and Idaho specifically.

I appreciate the Off-Topic section of the Forum has become a vacuum for political discussion, but this was not the intent of my post.

I do not mean to demean our reserve forces, but in my time in the service it was difficult to consider them as an equal. They did not have the opportunity to live the day to day professional life as a soldier. The were often serving our Country in a civilan professional roll.

I guess what I am saying is they maybe facing a much more difficult challenge than any one of them was prepared.

It is difficult to consider any of us prepared for capture and seeing the beheading and cruelty of the modern day combat situation.

Battle can bring unbelievable nightmares, but they happen very quickly and things evolve rapidly.

In my mind, capture and torture are not even measurable as a brave person in the same context. How you react in battle and how you might react as a prisoner could be a different measure of bravery. Just something to think about.

I do not and did not and do not compare McCain to Bergdahl. I did point out that Lt. col Peters publicly said that Bergdahl was to be condemned for aiding the Taliban even if under duress and that I wondered if anyone believed that his condemnation applied to Sen. McCain who "confessed" under duress. Lt. Col Peters went on publicly state that Bergdahl's Murder by his captors was justified if he was in fact a derserter as he personally believed. I haven't read all the comments that came in today but I am amazed that as of my hitting the sack last night none of you gung-ho patriots had come out and said Peters was in the least out of line in his comments on Fox News.

You do make a good point. They will cut his throat in a heart beat if he is no longer a plus. In their view it will save the cost of a round of ammunition. I hate to say it but like in the past they may even record it and play it over for all our heart break.

I only hope for his sake he realizes this and complies to some degree until our special forces get to his rescue. They are the best, and we can only hope they will get there in time.

The fact of the matter is not talking is not to reveal secrets or propaganda against our side. I do not think either is a threat in this day an age and with a PFC in the military.

Lets all hope for his rescue. His rescue will over shout anything the enemy could ever hope for in propoganda.

It certainly goes beyond anything we have ever done to a captive.

If so I apologize but that was how I read it. I do not think that Peter's would accept the comparison as even a reasonable one but who knows. Maybe you should ask him.
