And this is a classic example.........

POWER: GORE MANSION USES 20X AVERAGE HOUSEHOLD; CONSUMPTION INCREASE AFTER 'TRUTH'
Mon Feb 26 2007 17:16:14 ET

The Tennessee Center for Policy Research, an independent, nonprofit and nonpartisan research organization committed to achieving a freer, more prosperous Tennessee through free market policy solutions, issued a press release late Monday:

Last night, Al Gore’s global-warming documentary, An Inconvenient Truth, collected an Oscar for best documentary feature, but the Tennessee Center for Policy Research has found that Gore deserves a gold statue for hypocrisy.

Gore’s mansion, located in the posh Belle Meade area of Nashville, consumes more electricity every month than the average American household uses in an entire year, according to the Nashville Electric Service (NES).

In his documentary, the former Vice President calls on Americans to conserve energy by reducing electricity consumption at home.

The average household in America consumes 10,656 kilowatt-hours (kWh) per year, according to the Department of Energy. In 2006, Gore devoured nearly 221,000 kWh—more than 20 times the national average.

Last August alone, Gore burned through 22,619 kWh—guzzling more than twice the electricity in one month than an average American family uses in an entire year. As a result of his energy consumption, Gore’s average monthly electric bill topped $1,359.

Since the release of An Inconvenient Truth, Gore’s energy consumption has increased from an average of 16,200 kWh per month in 2005, to 18,400 kWh per month in 2006.

Gore’s extravagant energy use does not stop at his electric bill. Natural gas bills for Gore’s mansion and guest house averaged $1,080 per month last year.

“As the spokesman of choice for the global warming movement, Al Gore has to be willing to walk to walk, not just talk the talk, when it comes to home energy use,” said Tennessee Center for Policy Research President Drew Johnson.

In total, Gore paid nearly $30,000 in combined electricity and natural gas bills for his Nashville estate in 2006.

Just because the The Tennessee Center for Policy Research claims to be an independent, nonprofit and nonpartisan research organization doesn't mean that it is. A look at their web site and at their list of affifliations indicates that they have a definite viewpoint -- and they sure ain't tree hugging liberals.
Perhaps they have the facts on Al's power consumption correct -- but I'd bet that they've told only a part of the story. Might be good to get all the facts before leaping to a conclusion, as unusual as that is in today's society.

... he trots around the globe preaching to us about our carbon footprint while having one of the largest. I didn't bother to look up the organization, obviously they have an agenda. EVERYBODY does. But at least they deal in facts, unlike Owlgore. If it wasn't the truth he would be all over the media screeching about it and filing libel suits. What they don't tell you is that he has several other homes around the world also. I am sure the power consumption at them is considerable also.

My personal opinion is she feels one way and speaks another. That could meet both au67 and LTL's definitions. (or should I say "thinks and speaks"). I don't know whether, like most politicans, she feels anything.

Our best hope is politican leader(s) who are intelligent and can appoint the right people for cabinet jobs and judgeships.

You started by claiming that Al is a hypocrite because he urges that carbon emissions be limited while leaving a large carbon footprint himself. Now you acknowledge that Al is actually helping reduce the overall carbon footprint, even if he's doing so by buying offsets. So now you're just complaining because he's got an upscale lifestyle. Talk about hypocrisy.

game???

I don't care how extravagant a lifestyle he leads, as long as he isn't preaching to others about theirs!!!

And BTW, 'offsets' are a joke and a term that the limousine liberals came up with to 'justify' their hypocrisy. If you are a true believer act like it. Daryl Hanna is the only celebrity that I know of that is true to her cause. She has been off the grid for 13 years living in a one bedroom, one bath house. She HAS earned the right to preach to others, but doesn't do it from a private jet!!

Carbon footprint? When was the last time we as a civilization allowed a forest fire to burn out on its own? We stop them even though mother nature starts them (majority). What would the carbon footprint of one of these be compared to vehicular emissions? How about the oil fires in Kuwait? Has anyone seen the IMax movie "Fires of Kuwait"? If there was ever a documentary worth investing in, that would be it. BTW, I have a VHS copy if you would like to borrow it...

Yes, I think many around the Lake rake and burn on their shore line at least once a year.

I read somewere three or four years ago. the South East, Alabama was specifically mentioned, had a higher level of heavy metals to include mercury than most other states. The cause was coal fired production of electricty and factories. Some States were worse simply by their proximity to facilities in neighboring States.

There maybe more to worry about out there than Global Warming. I did read last year that all species of fish in Lake Martin passed the gold standard as clean, edible and low risk (some of the wording was of my choice and not in the article).. Anyway, safe to eat. .

Good point PP.

One single large volcano eruption puts out more sulfer, soot, and ash than every car built since they were invented about 1887.

One snowmobile puts out the polution of 1,000 Ohio made Cambirys.

One jet-ski is less but similar.

The purpose of green house gases, 40% water vapor, is to keep the planet cool. With no "greenhouse effect", the planet would be 140 degrees.
