What would happen to the daily operation of the treatment plant if the permit were not renewed?

IMHO, that has a zero possiblity of happening........there are very few things in this life that are so black and white. There are a range of things that ADEM can mandate the city do to correct the number of problems that they seem to have in order to come into compliance. Besides, I don't think anyone would want the city officials to get off so easily so as to be able to blame someone else for the years of negligence.

After the meeting when SO many rich and powerful folks showed up to protest they shut the WWTP down. That is the good news.

Now for the BAD:

It seems the jail was hooked to that system so all of the county prisoners were released since they couldn't flush toilets. The courthouse closed at lunch today. All deputies were reasigned to the north end of the county. Although all courthouse business has been suspended, local athorities are still going to issue citations for such as not having a tag. All real estate transactions have been suspended because no deeds can be recorded. The local businesses were given till 5pm today to vacate. You can't have a public building without working plumbing. All residents have 48 hours to either install a septic tank, rent a porta potty or MOVE. The latter is the preferred for all those folks that showed at the meeting.

Dear Sir,
I use that term loosley. I have also been a person who has lived in this area for many years and was in business for well over 30 years with work experience many years before, including the military during some very trying times. I have never, in all those years, heard a person with a more disgusting, more antisocial attitude as yours. You have no supprt of your fellow man. Thank God you weren't next to me when I needed you the most.

Only the things I post here. How dare you sit in judgement of me. I don't care who, what or where you are. The anti-social ones are the ones that would block new industry for the area. The ones that hold nothing but contempt for the 'locals', and make disparaging remarks about out local politics and politicians. You see they know better than we do because they are so much smarter than 'those folks'.

Take your sanctimonious attitude and shove it up your holier than thou a$$.

And this post is NOT done tongue in cheek like the last one.

Against my better judgement, I will make another effort to reach you. No one at the public hearing asked for the Dadeville WWTP to be shut down, nor did anyone request that the permit not be re-issued. Requesting that the City of Dadeville comply with whatever permit they are issued and that ADEM enforce the requirements of that permit is in most people's minds just common sense. If you feel so strongly in your opinion, why were you not at the hearing to speak on the city's behalf?

I am quite content like I am thank you!! You have been about the ONLY voice of reason of all of the naysayers. There have been calls for the Mayors 'head on a platter' more or less. I resent ANYONE coming in from a holier than thou attitude. They know best. We aren't smart enough to know that you shouldn't pollute the water, yada yada, ad nauseum.

It is sickening to me. I have lived in small towns most all of my life. They are all the same. I challenge anyone to find ANY comparable city/town that has NOT had sewer issues, either now or in the past. Heck, look at Atlanta. They made a conscious decision NOT to fix the sewer. Paying the fines is cheaper as they dump into the Hooch EVERY DAY. I also challenge ANYONE of the brainiacs to go to the city and SHOW THEM how to fix the problem with no money. The ones screaming the loudest were also the same ones that were crying the loudest when they got a revised tax bill. Everybody wants Utopia, as long as THEY don't have to help pay for it.

Once again. The only time the plant overflowed was in torrential rainfall. It is not like they just said what the heck, just pump it through to the lake. Mistakes were made. Now they are being corrected. Give it a rest.

Also, many of those crying the loudest are also not coming to the lake this year because the lake is low and APCO didn't get the memo that Osms and his like REALLY WANTED water this year. This further depletes the tax base for the city and county. I bet not ONE of them has ever said, no lets wait and buy the weekend supplies in Dadeville, they could use the business. Yet when the county does the one thing that will increase revenue, they cry foul.

Were you at the ADEM hearing Monday night?

I had no reason to be there. It is not my job to defend the actions or inactions of others. I am not worried about the issue. The plant will get a new license and some needed upgrades. I hope it made you all 'feel better' to get to vent. Heck, next year Osms will even have water (feces laden I'm sure) again.

Somebody down below even stated that they were 'worried' about being able to use the lake on the 4th. Yesterday I rode from Manoy to Sandy and then to Kowliga and back to Manoy. Come to think of it, everybody stay away, the lake is unusable.

You have stated many times that you guys have no need for our out of town fat cat capital - now you moan about many not coming down to give it to you?? Make a choice man - you have gone from fighting everyone else to fighting yourself, although I suppose you are the only one left to argue with at this point. By the way, my family has been down every weekend and I guarantee spent more money within the local economy times ten, then you have it. Finally, the property values reflect a certain expectation of using your pier - one of the points of waterfront property. I know you bought in 1902, so since you only paid $5.75 for your property, you have little to use. But have some empathy for the rest of us.

Never said we don't need your capitol. I said we don't need your opinions, guidance, help in local matters. I have stated MANY times that I am a capitolist. I love taking your money I just smile all the way to the bank as I laugh at you and your pompous, arrogant attitude.

Laker, you just stated: “It is not my job to defend the actions or inactions of others. I am not worried about the issue.” Well, if that is the case, why are you doing it so much on this forum?

I'm not trying to reach you, but "reaching out" to you. Would you like for Lake Martin to have an "Outstanding Alabama Water" classification? Would you like to see an ethanol plant in Dadeville be a model for the nation in its design, construction and operation? Would you like to see Lake Martin operating guidelines re-evaluated based on the most recent climate data? Would you like to see your financial investment (whatever it may be) positively impacted by development rather than adversely? These are some of the things "we" want and are going to work hard to get. I'm not sure what it is you want.

And lastly, would you think this would be a better place to live if we all had your current attitude?

I don't know why. WE are obviuosly to far apart, unless youhave 'go go gadget arms'. (Paula is that you...LOL)
Would you like for Lake Martin to have an "Outstanding Alabama Water" classification?
Why? How does that affect me when it is already one of the cleanest lakes in the country
Would you like to see an ethanol plant in Dadeville be a model for the nation in its design, construction and operation?
And how are you going to do that? Is it YOUR money that is going to build it? I am sure they are not setting out to build an outdated inefficient plant that will pollute and then get them sued out of business.
Would you like to see Lake Martin operating guidelines re-evaluated based on the most recent climate data?
Why should Lake Martin be different from EVERY other lake/waterway controlled by the Corps and FERC. They make the rules NOT APCO.
Would you like to see your financial investment (whatever it may be) positively impacted by development rather than adversely?
I don't live on the lake for financial gain. I live here because I LOVE IT, I have lake water in my veins. It has been a way of life for me for 48 years. How long have you been around?
These are some of the things "we" want and are going to work hard to get. I'm not sure what it is you want.
To harrange idoits for fun and profit!!!!

And lastly, would you think this would be a better place to live if we all had your current attitude
ABSOLUTELY. Because all of you would get a life and stop worrying about the thinngs you can't change. But if you get the Corps and FERC to change the way they do business, THEN I will be impressed. In the mean time, you guys offer hours of entertainment.

And a legend in your own mind no doubt. Just throwing money around like that. Please sir can I have some more.

And learn a little history of the lake you claim to love so much that you are going to protect us from ourselves in order to SAVE it. The lake was impounded in 1926, and with OMG a planned 50ft draw down each year.

And since you are SO rich AND worried about no water just rent a fleet of tankers and go to Texas and truck some of that water over this way. Then you can be a hero in TWO states.

Well, actually, I think you entertain most of us. You don’t annoy me. In fact, I love to see you post so often. Keep it up. Much of the jabber we read here is kind of boring, but not your post. I usually just shake my head and grin to myself. I do admit that sometimes when you say something really stupid, I have to throw in a little jab, just to get you rattled.
Keep up the good work.

I am not trying to "reach" anyone, just commenting. There are many of use that are fortunate enough to be able to live full time in the lake area. However, I know that I personally try to support the community any chance I get, I buy my groceries and gas for the weekend there, we eat out, we go to the movies, we give to the charities that set up booths for fund raisers down there. Just because many of us are not full time residents doesn't mean we don't value and support the local community. I hope to be fortunate enough to retire there.
