I don't know if it varies from who you talk to at the power company, but last year they told us 50 ft from the seawall out. I would contact the power company and request the handout with the guidelines.

I think a rock hard dock of average length is best unless you have one of those wide deep lakes, then you may need several big docks for that.

This is why you will find a lot of docks configured with a "Hammer-Head" or a "T" at the end.
