I hardly ever post on the forum, but I love to read it.

I own a home on the lake, but am not a member of HOBO, for no good reason. I have no issues with HOBO. They are actually a a group of people that decided to do SOMETHING, besides complain about things on the forum. I suggest to anyone that has a problem with them, to go to their meetings and address them. Start your own group, whatever you want. But do something, not just talking.

About PWCs, they make less noise, pollution, than before, they're much safer to drive and more maneuverable than ever, and I can't say that they've destroyed someone's pier, unless they hit it dead-on. I'd love to capture the video of the 28-foot Sea-Ray, with the wake board bladders installed in the hull, "cruising" through my slough at 10 mph. We can't run off of the pier fast enough when we hear them coming. 5-6 foot waves are normal for that vessel. Everyone and everything gets soaked on the pier, and thank goodness that it's new, because it will easily tear an old floating pier off its hooks. And who ever thought they'd see the day when a pontoon boat can go 60 mph? The tri-toons are everywhere. And going fast.

We're all guilty of "bothering " someone else at sometime. But everyone I meet when I'm on the lake is great. Always smiling and waving to everyone. And will always stop to help if they see you need it.

So for me, when I'm on the lake and the weather's good, there's no other place in the world to be. HOBOs, PWCs, Rednecks, Turbo-toons, whatever!

Amen! Not too many big boats come into our slough, but we have pontoons and PWC's that come in way too fast. We've had waves so rough that they rocked the bumpers up onto the docks. We've had boats towing small children on inflatable floats coming in way too fast and almost throwing their kids into docks when they make a sharp turn.

In my (humble) opinion, the real issue is one of common courtesy and safety. Going too fast in small areas, cutting across in front of other boats in open waters, driving too close and too fast near other boats - all are dangerous to everyone.

Good post. Especially the part about “HOBO being a group of people that decided to do SOMETHING, besides complain about things on the forum. I suggest to anyone that has a problem with them, to go to their meetings and address them. Start your own group, whatever you want. But do something, not just talking.”

OK so you agree another Group that will do something should be started,
We have the support of the HOBO'S that they agree they suck and we need a group to replace them. One that will support the members and not just take the dues, by the way what are they doing with all that cash, they should have a ton of it with 1,800+ members at $15.00 a pop?
That will buy a lot of stamps and envelopes for letters and such huh?

what they do with their money? After the accounting year-end, they must file a tax form to which you have the right to view.

Providing false information to the public could result in loss of tax-exempt status so I would hope that such would not occur.

Seeing as Maverick is VP and a CPA in his other life, I doubt any cooking of the books is going on. I don't question the honesty of any of the HOBO Board. I do question their character in other areas i.e.; when to shut up, allowing board members to make offensive public statements without recourse, displaying adolescent behavior, attacking others with false statements, allowing non board members to set the agenda of the group, taking an exclusionary stance instead of an inclusionary stance, and finally 'circling the wagons' around board members who exhibit indefensable behavior. I could probaly go on, but I think you get the point.

lovethelake...you should post more often. In our sleu, there is very good consideration for the most part. We have been on this lake since I was 3 years old. Turned 48 Monday. I too have disturbed the peace at the lake...especially in my teenage and early 20 years when we would pack up the band and jam at the lake. I still disturb the lake when Alabama plays Tenn (we have a 14 year tradition, although we've been a little sub-dued in recent years). Some people have no consideration at all. If you let them bother you, you've stooped to their level. When I hear others have a good party I try to think back a little. The will all pass out eventually.

But when I see a neighbor with company...we let them use their time on the water. You can watch your neighbors having fun and take turns so to speak. Most people get out and run 1/2 of a tank of gas and then take a break. You kind of learn the lake patterns and adjust. If you really want, you can play on Monday-Wednesday without much competition.

As for DJ, let him keep his $25. The HOBO's don't need it. If the HOBO's only accomplish awareness it's worth a case of beer+ (or a 1/2 of tank of gas now) to me each year. You should join...they send you updates on what's going on.

Hope to see you on the lake sometime!

I will be doing a little of that 'disturbing' myself tonight along with friends, but at midnight we move it inside. Best way to not disturb them is to invite them. Thats what I do, it must work nobody has complained YET!
