anyone have suggestions on a good place to watch the game around the lake? CBS declined my request for waiver to pick up their signal at my lake house. I CAN stream it on CBSsports.com on my laptop but sometimes that gets a little weird with the satellite signal. Thanks!

Are you on DISH? I have heard stories lately about them telling customers that they can get the local channels out of Montgomery; the customer signs up, only to learn that they can't get those channels after all. DISH is very sympathetic, but won't release them from the two-year agreement that they had to lie about to get them to sign in the first place.

I was considering dropping cable and getting DISH, but only had to hear the above story a couple of times before I decided against it.

Had DISH at LM for maybe 8 years. Added Local channels (Montgomery) about 3 years ago, without any long term agreement. Had to change out the smaller antenna for a larger model in order to capture all 3 satellites required. No extra charges applied. Service is good, even during the recent tornado/hail storms.

I too was set to switch to DISH when they announced that they were going to offer the Montgomery stations, but when all was said and done, I was told that there were "too many obstacles" that would keep me from getting them, even though there was nothing keeping me from getting all of the other channels.

I guess like so many things, in the end it comes down to location, location, location...

Ahhhrrr. Return key!!
Maybe it is not the location, but the attitude/drive of the installer to give you what you want. This guy was at our place for about 6 hours, with a side trip to Opelika for parts. Good experience for us.

Do you remember your installer's name? So far I haven't been impressed with the guy who told me that the locals would "take a few minutes to download," and the guy who told me that the system #1 had installed couldn't possibly pick up locals offered an option that the home office said wasn't possible. (That was using an out of town address, which he said would qualify us to get the locals for that city instead of Montgomery.)

Don't remember a name. But we went thru the 800 number route to DISH. They sub'ed the installation to this guy out of Opelika. The normal roof mounted antenna won't pick up all three satellites required for 250 stations plus locals. It required a larger (maybe 2X) antenna that cannot be roof mounted, must be pole mounted in the ground.
I suspect that DISH pays a flat fee to subcontractors to install, and that fee is too low to cover the cost of placing the larger antenna; thus you are being told you cannot get Locals. Just a guess.
Good luck.

We've had the Dish network since we bought the house in May and get local Montgomery Channels (I thought I'd prefer Birmingham, but get better Auburn football coverage out of Montgomery). I didn't call the 800 number, I called Cable Busters in Dadeville (an advertiser on this site). They were early for the appointment, gone in 30 minutes and I've had no problems. Yes the dish was already installed from the previous owner, so the installation was short and simple. Call 'em.
