GOP Rep. Peter King of NY wants to pass a law that it is illegal to carry a firearm within 1,000 feet of a member of Congress.

Where do I begin to deconstruct this profoundly stupid suggestion? First and foremost, having a law like this will never stop what happened in Arizona. Does anyone with half a brain think that this nut job would say, "Well I wanted to shoot my congressman but I found it is illegal to get close to them with a gun so never mind". Yeah, some nut job is going to conclude that he will not commit premeditated murder because it is illegal to have a gun close to his target. How nonsensical is that? Second, the practical reality of this law is it would make a felon out of a person that has the misfortune of legally carrying a gun and unfortunately coming into contact with a member of Congress. It is simply not enforceable and will not prevent this from happening and is a meaningless and stupid suggestion.

The sad fact is that one of this congresswoman's people had a gun they may have prevented the shooting or at least prevented other people from being killed and wounded.

I agree with you completely. This statement should prove that we elect the most illogical people in the United States to congress. Anyone that thinks that just passing laws causes criminals not to pursue illegal activity has their head up their rear. I think I remember that it is already illegal to kill someone so in this case the law certainly did not work. To hear the left scream about speech as the cause shows that politcal people will go to any lengths to promote their idealogy. Makes my blood boil.
