It is truly amazing to me how completely ignorant and clueless the so-called intellectual academic elite are in this country. They actually believe there is no risk of a tyrannical government here in the good. old USA. I can't figure out whether it is because they live in the insular world of academia or if they just think the only tyranny will be one they agree with, i.e., left wing. Either way they would do well to look at the historical record and which groups are targeted first by these kinds of governments for control and/or eradication. They long ago recognized that to control the masses you need to control the media and the education system. Works every time its been tried and ironically it is law abiding citizens like us that legally own guns that prevent this very unlikely case and hence, keep it safe for them to make ignorant statements in a public forum.

Of course, knowing the gutless nature of the left in academia, they would quickly eschew to the party line and become very good and efficient purveyors of the government's propaganda. Again, very unlikely as of today but still possible and therefore worth having an armed populace.

This is no surprise. After the McCarty era the socialists and communists buried themselves in academia and later have populated these unaccountable new branches of government where no legal representatives vote on "regulations"(read laws) that restrict our rights without representation. The latest that was finally struck down by a district court was the EPA entering a suit that held the premise that water in itself was a pollutant (along with already declared CO2 I suppose). We now live in la-la land.
