it appears the lake level alerts are not being sent in a timely manner because the lake level is only being updated once a day. When the lake rises fast during the day these alerts are not very effective. Is something wrong with lake level updates?

I agree with that ! When these flood conditions exist and are rapidly changing There should be a more timely update. If anyone knows of a link thats updated more than mentioned above, please post it. If I run acroos one I'll do the same. D

Take Notice: Due to recent heavy rains, expect Logan Martin elevation to rise to near elevation 469.5 Wedneday, May 8th, before returning to normal levels this weekend. Spillway gates are open. Individuals with boats and water-related equipment and facilities should always stay alert to changing conditions and be prepared to take the necessary steps to protect their property.

Thanks for the info! We've been here for a couple of years and first time experiencing the flood levels.

It's very interesting during a flood. Forums get active ( Like me now ) stuff floating by the pier. Have to constantly keep an eye on stuff getting jammed up under the pier for fear of damage. Just like the other day. A tree truck about 35' - 40' long stuck under the pier. Had to release it to prevent it from tearing the pier up when boats come by making a wake. I think that boats are responsible for the wake they create and the damage they cause during these types of conditions. Anyhow I can't say for sure, but out of common courtesy and respect for others property I just ease along at idle if I get out at all. D

I was kindof shocked the local media will not give updates when the lakes are at flood levels.lot of people probaly dont no how bad it is

Interesting point you brought up about boaters and wakes during floods. Would you support a "Respect the Shore" campaign or law that applies during flooding?

I would support some sort of public awarness campaign. I really think folks just don't realize the effect of their wakes on the structures that are exposed in times like these. It's horrible to see an old boat house that cannot be rapaired under the current regulations just take on damage during times when the River is out of its banks. Even piers that are floating peirs take on incredible stresses where they are attached to land. Perhaps some sort of advisory at launches around the lake, sort of like a red flag warning on the beach when currents and conditions warrant extra care. Maybe a painted pole with diferent colors at each boat launch. When the River gets over " pick a level " it would be idle speed only, like around marinas. I don't have an exact answer that would serve the general population. Maybe mention it in the boating regulations when applying for a boaters liscence would be a start. At least that way you know everyone that took the test should have seen it.

Campaign? Yes. Public awareness? Yes. Legislation? NO! You can't legislate common sense.
And just so you know where I stand on this. I would NEVER consider getting on a motorcycle without a helmet. But I detest a law that tells me I have to wear one. Same way with seatbelts. Laws and legislation only make money for lawyers and it's the citizens with common sense that have to pay for them.

I agree with the fact that common sense should be in place. Like I said earlier, folks just do not realize what their doing. I am going to research " 220-6-.07 #14" And see if that already covers the open river or mentions flood stage `vs` damage, and anything else that it covers on this subject. Just curious about it and now I want to know.
FYI : Anyone missing a pink adirondack chair it will be at LMD in about the next hour or so.
Hope everyone does well till we get the lake relieved. Looking fwd to summer time and all that goes with it. Keep the thought provoking ideas coming for sure. D
