I have found myself behind two pontoon's as of late with the strobe lights on the back. Am I the only one that thinks they are super anoying and unessary ?

Yes, they are a bit anoying....but a life would have almost certainly been saved last week if he'd had one installed.

Unlike docking lights, strobes do not destroy night vision, and are much more visible than the venerable incandescent anchor light.

Kind of like the power of advertising that  Bluecreekman noticed them so much that he sends a comment. And I agree that they can be a bit of an annoyance, but I'm certain that they could improve the safety of the lake.

    Bigger question is....are they legal ?  I don't operate much at night but when I do we always seem to encounter someone operating with no lights or illegal lights.  Like the fool in Sandy Creek with "no lights'.

Can you provde the forum with any details of that accident.  All I could ever find was that it was still under investigation.  We know Stanley Sides lost his life and two others were injured. That's about it.

Thank you for sharing this link.  I installed one 8 years ago and at the time could not get an official blessing from Marine Police.  They are excellent to alert other boat of your presence and agree that they could in fact help prevent some of these bad accidents after dark.  I am glad to know that they are officially legal now.
