Firebrand Republican senator and presidential candidate Ted Cruz on Friday rushed across a line rarely crossed on the Senate floor: He accused the leader of his party, Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, of lying to his colleagues.

“We know now that when the majority leader looks us in the eyes and makes an explicit commitment, that he is willing to say things that he knows are false,” Cruz (R-Tex.) said. “That has consequences for how this body operates.”

Of course.  McConnell, Reid, Pelosi, Boehner, Cruz ad infinitum...they are all politicians and they all lie for a living.

It's pretty shocking that he used that language in attacking the Majority Leader.   I'm sure Cruz knows that positions taken are sometimes negotiated away before the deal is done... and he is upset because he didn't get what he wanted.   Our national political conversation would be a lot better if the pols didnt' feel the need to make statements that are designed to sound completely certain & unequivocal... but then later have to be walked back as in McConnell's case.  Cruz is a gifted speaker, but I thought he was pulling one from The Donald's playbook with this one.

That was my thought.  He saw that Trump was getting attention for his statements, so Cruz decided to give it a go.  He hasn't gotten much press lately.
