We live near Chucks marina and our Verizon cell phone service is great. We have almost no data service. Sometimes I can't download my email for days and then it works perfectly for a few hours. We have Dish, but they don't offer Internet in our area. Charter refuses to admit that we are actually a house even though my next door neighbor has Charter. So our options are limited. I was just wondering if any of the rest of you have issues or have a service I might can sign up for that I don't know about. I have complained long and loud, but it has not helped. The report is intermittent service issues that cannot be resolved. Their charges are not intermittent. Help!!

Have you tried a cell phone reception booster?

I am right near Anchor bay and our service was AWFUL!!!! I worked remote using my phone as a hotspot on Friday. Not one problem all day long. About 7pm the rest of the family arrived and no one at this point could get any data type service. Picture text would not go through, however u could call with no problem. This lasted the entire weekend and on Tuesday morning my sis n law sent a text saying the Internet was great and she downloaded a new book on her iPad. This is not a issue we can resolve as customers. Verizon has 1 of 3 issues...they throttle back bandwidth for whatever reason, they have a system that can't handle the amount of people, or the towers around the lake are shytty. I have found that this issue is not new and doesn't seem like its going to change. Sucks verizon won't step it up. My boss has a place behind real island....couldn't check emails, couldn't check the weather, nothing. Service was terrible on all ends of the lake.

In previous years of complaints from customers of all providers it seems that Verizon was the go to in most areas of the lake. It worked when others did not. No doubt, several years back that Verizon worked in rural areas when others would not.
I do think, however, there has been some change over the last year or so. Maybe some equipment aging, maybe some towers not being used now, maybe more customers since it was the go to service. Not sure of the reason but the service has been worse. At Parker Creek we use a verizon booster for phone service (house faces north so I think we hit the towers that way fairly good). Without the booster our phone service is sporadic. Most of the time it works great with booster.
Driving on Coosa 2 toward Equality is a different animal. There was a time when service there was great. I know now NOT to try a call when I leave home driving that way. Calls drop in a minute.
Something has changed.

We also have Verizon and reception is terrible. The only way to get a signal is to stand in the middle of the street and search for it.
It reminds me of that old TV show...Green Acres.

I would agree there is something going on with the Verizon data service. I am normally around the Sandy Creek, Youngs Island up to River North Marina part of the lake. At times it is difficult to stream music but once it connects its usually pretty good. It works flawlessly in some areas of that part of the lake and spotty in others.
When we went to the west side of the lake to watch the fireworks on July 4th it was absolutely horrible. I got zero data on that side of the lake just south of the bridge. So if you are on that area of the lake I feel your pain. It would drive me absolutley nuts. My wife's T-Mobile phone seemed to work much better on that part of the lake. She was able to stream music without an issue and receive data.

It is probably a bandwidth issue. Data service in general is better in the fall and winter. On the summer holdiay weekends it does seem to act up more.
My advice would be to put an access point outside your house so that you can at least get wifi at the dock. Just run an ethernet cable from your cable modem to an access point like the one in the link below, install the access point in a location outside closer to your dock and your good to go. Just note that the limit for an ethernet run is 300 feet.

Here's an idea. Put your phones down and enjoy the lake.

Hello. I live at the lake, enjoy every minute of it, even sitting in my hammock chair talking on the phone, or reading stuff on LM forum.

Phone is down all day. It is used to stream music to the stereo on the boat. An absolute necessity at the lake. Harry must be an older fellow with an 8 track!!! LOL

We have Verizon and the service has improved for us. I didn't use to be able to get a signal inside my house, but now I do and I have no data issues. There is a booster on our Verizon signal which was required for it to work with our security system. Our house faces East and we have no large trees blocking our signal. I haven't noticed a problem with Verizon on crowded weekends, but I notice that my Charter down load times really slow down.
