I have read some articles on that drive system. It is suppose to be more effective that conventional stern drives, and is designed for larger, heavier craft.

Did you look at the entire site? Neat stuff. Great animation.

I wondered that too. Looks like the fuel economy is 30% better, acceleration is much better so.... I would assume less resistance and wake. Might be a win-win. Wondered why it's not available in gas. Diesel makes me think it's more big lake/ salt water like Cat said.

They don't offer it in gas because the rig is all about fuel economy. Common rail, blown, direct injection diesel engines represent the near future in boats and cars. Check out the Jetta or Mercedes 320CDI. You will be amazed at the economy, acceleration, and silence. And the absence of black smoke.

With the out-drive facing the rear of the boat, the force of the propeller is being applied directly to the shaft which "pushes" against the outdrive causing propulsion. With it inverted then the pressure is being applied against the bolts which hold the propellers on. I would think this might cause problems? (or not because airplane propellers act in the same manner?)
