Just back from the lake and met with Reid Mitchell and Mark down at Mitchell Marine.

Looked at a 2006 24' Manitou - Legacy, very nice boat (Maniou's Top of the Line). Quality of construction and workmanship was as good as any pontoon I have seen. All pontoons have their niche features and this one had some other pontoons do not have and visa veras. In terms of seating comfort. probably not quit as plush as Bennington, but in line with JC and Harris.

Boat Warranty
- Decking 30 years
- Pontoons 10 years
- Upholstery 3 years
- Carpet and Bimini 5 years

Honda Engines
- 5 years

Reid said you can fiannce the boat and motor through Honda right now at 6.9%, if needed.

With regards to a trailer, they said if you really do not need one do not get one. He said while under warranty if there where problems he would send somebody to the house at no charge to pick boat up. Also stated routine service could be done at our house as well, but would be a service trip charge.

If there are 2 or more people interested and we buy during the winter, Reid said he would sell them at Dealer Net + 10%. Delivery is 3 to 4 weeks. If you wait till Spring the price is Dealer Cost (Not Net) + 20%+ Have not really negotiated a final deal as not sure how many are interested. They said a fully rigged out Manitou Legacy with a 225 Honda would probably be around $40k. Also they said there is probably only a $1k difference between th 2 models in price.

Going back in about 2 weeks for a test ride, Reid stated he has sold more of these boats on the spot after a test ride then any other boat he has ever carried.

In terms of depreciation based n NADA prices (www.nada.com) it is hard to say as Manitou did not make SHP package except prior 2 years, and Bennington does not have pricing for 2005 or 2006, plus 3 toons really have only been in the market for about the past 5 years or so. So really had to gauge the depreciation as compared to other manufacturers. Best I could tell, appears the annual depreciation in terms of % is comparable to Bennington adn JC. Did not look at Harris as do not think Harris makes a 3 toon, but maybe they did in 2006 cannot remember.

Also, FYI my neighbor at the lake knows Reid and said very good, honest person. Would not hesitate one minute to deal with him.

So there is my update on the Manitou, anyone interested in going in on a group puchase?

Color me stupid, but please explain difference in your terms "dealer net" and "dealer cost". Yes, I'm interested. I've talked with him and looked at
what I thought was a 2007 Legacy w/225 Honda. No test drive yet,. He does seem to have a very good reputation for service on the lake.

The Harris does have a tri-tube--in fact Blue Creek has two 2006 Classic's on the floor for about $28,000 with Merc Verado 150.

I've know Ried and Patty for several years; they are very good folks. I've bought several item from them (including a used pontoon) and they have always treated me right.

Dealer Net - Cost after any types of incentives

Dealer Cost - Cost before incentives

Interesting--My thought process said that dealer net included rigging, prep, and everything else to get the boat out the door. Dealer cost was invoice including freight.

Were you able to learn what incentives might be included during the winter that might juice up the deal?

No, but I think he said something about he just placed his 2007 order and based on voulmne was getting special prcing or something like that.

Reid seems like to be a good guy and I am sure if we cut a deal with him he wouls lay everything on the table ans show us his net cost. Also, neighbor seems to know him, so maybe neighbor could give him a call for us, never know may not hurt.

I think boat manufacturers cut deals (floor plans, % off, options at no cost, etc.) during the winter just to keep the factories open. With a plant in Lansing, MI, they need sales in the South.

How 'bout seeing what the Bennington dealer will do?

Not interested in Bennigton now, as I want a pontoon that will do 50+ and has skiing ability and Bennignton only has 50+ but have to go to I/O and I want a 4 stroke.

So Bennington is out for me.

You had better get it soon Maverick so you will be Grandfathered in. I understand they are going to pass a boating law outlawing big wake pontoon boats that exceed 25 MPH. LOL

Have you checked into a tri-toon with twin 225 HP outboards?

I happen to believe that competition between dealers is best for the buyer. Know any other Manitou dealers?

if cost were the only concern, I would say go get a fisher or something. You need to test drive the boats to see the difference, and believe me, there is a difference! Reid was real easy to deal with and my service has been great. I dont know who else has the Honda, But it is an investment I would recomend.

I think in my boat papers, my warranty was lifetime, 30year non prorated on the decking, and twenty years on the pontoons and all other welded places(railings)?

It scalled an Odyssey, they make a pontoon with twin outborads that will exceed 60+ MPH and currently holds th World Pontoon Speed Record.

Hey Guys,
Don't forget the boat shows are coming up in a few months. If a dealer is honest, he will tell you he can not match the price you will get there. Manufacturers give dealers subsidies during the shows. I actually dealt with the Bennington Regional Manager, Tim Payne, at the B’ham show. Tim lived in Orlando at the time. He could put me on any dealer I wanted. He was at a dealer from the Smith Lake area the night I talked to him, but telling him I was on Lake Martin, he took me over and introduced me to Donnie McDaniel with Lakeside Marina. Good, down to earth guy, if you want a Bennington.

manitou- is a great pontoon. need to get in touch with ridgeman-see a previous post. talked to him. bought his in ga. the dealer there gave him a great price- mithcell marine couldn't touch it. really nice folks, but said they just couldn't match the price. the boat ( from a very reliable source) is in excellent condition, almost show room. just him and his wife cruising around the lake. worth a call or email if you are really interested. just thought ya'll might like to know if you guys are really interested in a really excellent used boat. lots of luck on your hunt, and happy boating.

I recently purchased a 2006 Manitou from Mitchells. Everything in this thread is true. Reid and the people at the dealership really treat you right. One thing that was not mentioned was that when you buy a boat from them you get it all. Life Jackets, Fenders, they even pre-registered it and had matching numbers on it when I went to pick it up. Also Reid orders the boats with seat covers or a mooring cover that was included in the price. I bought the Manitou "Oasis" with a 115 Honda. I really like the boat and expect to have great service out of it.
I did look at all the others around the lake and Montgomery, Clanton, and Shelby County. After all that running around I feel I got the best boat for the money as well the quality I wanted. I ended up with a 22' Oasis w/115 Honda 4 Srtroke, and double axle trailer for under 24,000
