Extreme Drought Conditions. Logan Martin is expected to drop to 460.5 by August 15.

Does anyone have Mother Natures Number???? We need some rain badly, I am not ready for the Summer to be over.

Our summer ended yesterday . We took a ride from Riverside to the dam yesterday . After reading saturday that it would probably drop to 460.5 I decided to pull it out. I could probably get by if they would hold it around 461.5 , but any lower than that would put me on bottom.

I dont pretend to know anything about the way APCO controls lake levels and probably never will but how does the lake above us stay within a couple of feet below full pool and the lake below us stay a foot or so below full pool and here we are by the 15th will be 4 and a half below full pool. Maybe I could get a siphon hose and go up to Henry Neely and borrow a couple of feet of their water :).

Yea I can function in my slough at about 461 but below that I will need to put my auto parking system to use to get to the pier.

I am not ready to quit just yet, We have some pretty good neighbors and I gain about a 1 1/2ft per neighbor so I may just have to dock the boat next door for a few weeks.

It stinks but it could always be worse.

Still hope to meet you before the end of Summer.

Steve

Has to do with those rivers being "run of the river" lakes and LM being a reservoir. This is the same problem lake martin has as well. The two biggest hydro-electric lakes (reservoirs) will always drop differently than the adjacent run of the river lakes.

I'm already 2 neighbors down now. I have no further to go and looks like I will have to get up there this weekend at the latest to pull the pontoon out. :-(

Well, school is starting up next week so at least we made it until all of the school festivities crank up.

To be honest, I thought I would be having to pull out long before now so I can't complain too much.

I've never understood the deal with Lay Lake myself. They can generate just as much power there and serve just as many customers as they do with Logan Martin or Martin. It would be nice to hear from APCO on that but I doubt we would be happy even then.

The even funnier thing is that Southern Company, the parent of APCO is also the parent of Georgia Power and have the same deals on the lakes and rivers in Georgia. Same issues, same gripes as we have. Same company making the same money. But..if you want electricity, like to run our computers..what else are we gonna do? Anybody switching to solar?

What we all need is rain. OK, I made an understatement. That is the only real way our lake, or any other, are going to get the help they need.

And I don't know how many years it's been since we've had a flood but we're about due. What happens then? This is my second year on the lake. I haven't been here for a flood yet. But come to think of it, I haven't been here for a full pool summer yet either. Last year was dry too.

Peace,
<><

I DON'T UNDERSTAND THE WHOLE "RUN OF THE RIVER" THING AS WELL...I LIVE ON LAY AND UNTIL THEY RELEASED THE WATER FROM ALTOONA OUR LAKE WAS DEAD....IT IS DANGEROUS TO NAVIGATE AT -3.5 FEET (IF YOU DON'T KNOW THE LAKE IT CAN BE DANGEROUS AT FULL POOL)...I'M GLAD THEY GAVE IT ALL BACK....HEY YOU GUYS CAN ALWAYS COME ON DOWN TO LAY AND ENJOY APCO'S WATER...

My neighbor said it has flooded in the last 5 years.

We have only been there a year so all we have seen is drought conditions and about a month of full pool or close.
